Reporting to: Learning Support Coordinator
Aim
- Provideone-to-one and group learning support for members with a variety of Specific Learning Differences including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
Circumstances
- Based in London
- 17.5 hours per week
- Monday 9:00 – 17:00, Friday 9.00-17.00 and Saturday 10.00-14.00
- Some evening and weekend work may be required, time off in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis’ TOIL policy
- The role involves working with vulnerable adults and young people and so a satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required
Salary
- £15,810 per annum (£31,621 full time equivalent)

Principle Accountabilities
- Deliver effective and efficient learning support programmes
- Ensure that the learning support offered meets the needs of members and the requirements of awarding bodies and employers, where applicable
- Update and disseminate the Learning Support information to relevant teaching, pastoral and progression staff on a regular basis
- Ensure that information regarding members provided with learning support programmes and members progress records/achievements are recorded on the client database accurately
- Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are identified and reported in line with Crisis’ procedures
Recruitment and assessment
- Undertake screenings for specific learning differences indicators
- Contribute to the effective recruitment, guidance and placing of students across Skylight, to ensure course suitability for all prospective students
- Assist learning support coordinator to develop, deliver, monitor, review and evaluate learning support provision
Teaching and learning support
- Provide high quality teaching and tutoring skills
- Plan and deliver effective intervention both on a one to one basis and in small groups
- Develop study materials specifically aimed at members with specific learning differences
- Identify the progress of students with specific learning differencesand take appropriate action to support learning
- Promote and deliver study skills sessions embedded in vocational,and Functional Skills and ESOL programmes or as stand-alone sessions
- Work with tutors, job and progression coaches and mental health coordinators to ensure that coherent and high quality learning, tutorial and pastoral support is provided for all students
- Contribute to the development of a pathways curriculum that challenges and meets the needs of all Crisis students
Contribution to the team and organisation
- Support tutors and assessors to produce and maintain accessible teaching, learning and assessment resources
- Work in conjunction with other departments including Employment Services Team and Progression Coaches to ensure that a coherent and high quality learning support service is provided for all members
- Identify resources needed to meet the needs of members with specific learning differences
- Ensure effective systems of communication with members with specific learning differences and staff
- Exercise a key role in assisting Learning Support Coordinator to develop learning support provision.
Certification and quality assurance
- Undertake self-assessment and quality development planning activities.
- Attend regular meetings with Learning Support Coordinator and provide regular information to assess and evaluate learning support provision.
- Annual observation by Learning Support Coordinator to support quality and professional development.
General
- Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
- Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
- Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
- Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job
Person specification
Essential
- Hold or be working towards a full teaching qualificationsuch as a Postgraduate Certificate of Education, Certificate of Education or equivalent with a specialist teaching qualification in literacy, numeracy or ESOL
- Recognised certificate in teaching and supporting adult learners with specific learning differences
- Experience of engaging vulnerable, disengaged or hard to reach adults in relevant educational, employment and training programmes and experience of working with challenging behaviour and with people with complex needs
- Experience of specialist learning support delivery in an adult education environment
- Experience of working withlearners with low literacyskills
- Experience of developing of teaching and learning materials and tracking and monitoring of individuals’ progress whilst maintaining accurate and up to date records
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to work effectively with staff from various teams and other agencies in the context of learning support
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with safeguarding procedures
- Commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values including equality and social inclusion
Desirable
- Qualification in assessing specific learning differences
- Experience of running study skills and assistive technology workshops
