Position Title: SES Professional tutor

Position Summary:

Provide extensive and intensive after school tutorial services for elementary or middle school students. Organize, facilitate, and track tutoring sessions. Using Achieve3000, a web-based literacy program, and SBA Achiever!, a web-based assessment and instruction tool, the tutor will target grade-appropriate benchmarks for each student, focusing on the student gaining knowledge and strategies for success in his/her regular classroom.

Qualifications for the Position:

1.  Demonstrated skills and abilities in supervision, student motivation, record keeping, and working in a team situation with ability to create and maintain a positive work environment

2.  Bachelor’s Degree; Teacher Certification preferred.

3.  One year of relevant teaching or tutoring experience, preferably with racially/ethnically diverse and/or economically disadvantaged students.

4.  E-mail and internet skills with daily access to internet.

Major Duties:

1.  Participate in all initial and ongoing training sessions, including workshops in Achieve3000 and SBA Achiever! computer programs; attend all required meetings.

2.  Provide supervision for tutor aide(s), as well as students.

3.  Administer pretests and post tests, as well as formative assessments; maintain records of students’ results and progress.

4.  Deliberately teach to state benchmarks, using Achieve3000, SBA Achiever!, and other relevant teaching aides, targeting students’ areas of weakness.

5.  Keep accurate daily attendance on separate student attendance sheets as required by Nine Star and the Anchorage School District.

6.  Chart students’ attendance and participation, in order to award points.

7.  Handle all behavior issues according to rubric.

8.  Teach skills to small groups when appropriate,

9.  Assist students with personal homework if needed.

10.  Communicate with parents and teachers via e-mail or phone; maintain records.

11.  Follow directives given during training for reporting suspected child abuse and/or student counseling needs.

12.  Other responsibilities as necessary for success of program
