Job title:Interim Finance Manager

Salary:Grade I: ,£32,499 - £37,031 per annum

(dependent on relevant skills and experience)

Contract: Fixed term (to 30 September 2017)

Hours:37.5 hours per week

Location:Sustrans offices in Bristol

Job purpose:

To ensure that the Finance team provides a professional and efficient service to the organisation.

Place in organisational structure:

Key responsibilities:

Delivery of projects or services:

  • To lead the transition to newly implemented finance software (Access Dimensions), to include the development of best-practice processes and procedures.
  • To oversee, mentor and support the team with responsibility for the following areas:
  • Sales ledger
  • Purchase ledger
  • Purchasing cards
  • Banking
  • To line-manage various finance roles as required.
  • To co-ordinate and oversee the monthly reporting cycle.
  • To produce monthly management accounts and project cost statements.
  • To design, develop and maintain systems, processes and procedures to enable the smooth and efficient running of the organisation's financial accounting function, commensurate with its size and anticipated growth or contraction.
  • To ensure that the organisation makes effective use of evolving technologies, whilst offering value for money.
  • To review and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • To prepare the statutory accounts for review and audit.
  • To facilitate external inspections of books & records, to include statutory audit, HMRC inspections, audit by funding partners, etc.

People management

  • To manage, develop and coach team members by setting clear objectives and monitoring performance to maximise their potential.
  • To work with HR to ensure that training and development of staff is planned effectively and in line with business need.

Communication and marketing

  • To support and comply with the charity’s guidance on branding, tone of voice and key messages, positively contributing towards raising Sustrans’ profile.

  • To support and comply with the organisation’s policy for the management of Health and Safety.

Working conditions:

The post-holder will live close to the nominated office base although there may be opportunities to work from home at times.Overnight stays away from home may be necessary when participating in projects away from the designated base. Occasional weekend and late working may be required with time off in lieu. The post-holder must be prepared to cycle, walk or use public transport for the majority of work journeys.

Person specification

Criteria / Essential
Qualifications, education and training / None specific but appropriate accountancy qualification – ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA - is desirable.
Experience / Proven experience in a related position
Demonstrable experience of leading the development of finance processes and procedures
Experience of optimising the use of finance software
Experience of the preparation of management accounts
Line management experience
Experience of working independently
Experience of building effective working relationships
Experience in the preparation of VAT returns
Skills and abilities / Excellent IT literacy
The ability to be organised and methodical
The ability to work accurately
An ability to complete tasks to deadlines
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information clearly both verbally and in writing.
