Job Title: Head Boxing Coach

Salary: £26,000

Reports to: AASE Scheme Director

Job Purpose:

To run the Boxing Performance Centre (BPC) at South Leicestershire College, by offering full time students at South Leicestershire College College who have achieved the necessary performance and educational requirements, at least 12 hours of Boxing related study per week during term time. To manage the recruitment, delivery, assessment and achievement of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme.

To report progress of AASE athletes against targets set by the AASE Scheme Director and attend Continuous Professional Development as required by the Scheme Director.

To keep in close contact with the College Director of Sports Academies, tutors and the fitness coach, particularly with regards to academic, disciplining and other serious issues.

To ensure that England Colleges ABA (ECABA) retains a professional relationship with the College, the post holder will work with the College outside of the demands set by the AASE Scheme Director to develop the sport of Boxing in local schools and community clubs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1)  To deliver the NVQ element of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) over a two-year course of study for BPC athletes, to foster and encourage improvement to their Boxing ability along with their understanding of Olympic Boxing related opportunities after leaving College.

2)  To investigate recruitment avenues to ensure a substantial flow of new students into the Boxing academy, in conjunction with local clubs and the ABAE.

3)  To work as an Ambassador for the ECABA, ABAE and the College and ensure there are strong links with these and other partner institutions.

4)  To organise transport to and from the college for the students to the competitions and to off site activities including educational visits.

5)  To build strong links with the local Amateur Boxing Clubs, so that performance Boxers progress into the BPC.

6)  To develop holiday and school based coaching opportunities with the students on the AASE scheme.

7)  To promote the BPC by helping to keep the ECABA website up-to-date and liaising with local clubs and the ABAE.

8)  To integrate and work professionally with all college staff.

9)  To deliver the Boxing programme efficiently, effectively and on budget so that all students are given the best chance to succeed primarily academically and secondly in Boxing.

10)  To be accountable for the performance of the AASE programme and achieving minimum levels of performance.

You will be required to carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade of post and conditions of service, which may be required from time to time by the AASE Scheme Director.

Person Specification

Essential:

·  Extensive experience as a coach (at least 5 years)

·  Qualified to at least ABAE Level 2 / Full Coach standard

·  Understanding of Long-Term Athlete Development

·  Passion for the development of young boxers during the 16-19 phase

·  Good communicator

·  Good IT and administration skills

·  Commitment to ongoing professional development

·  Ability to inspire, enthuse and motivate young people

Desirable:

·  Advanced Coach (a commitment to achieve this qualification will be required if not already held)

·  Attended appropriate safeguarding and equity training

·  Attended behaviour management training

·  Awareness of doping regulations / attended appropriate course

·  Qualification in weight / fitness training

·  Knowledge of local boxing clubs and structures

·  City & Guilds FE Teaching Certificate 7407 Stage 2

·  Assessor or Verifier qualifications

·  First aid qualification
