JOB TITLE: Graphic Designer
REPORTS TO:Marketing Manager
Purpose of the job
The graphic designer is required to provide Phoenix with an in-house design resource. Previously, design support has been provided by an external agency, but following a review it has been decided to contract an individual who can provide these services either as a freelancer or a part-time employee.
Reporting into the Marketing Manager, the role will support all aspects of marketing.
Main duties
- Monthly design and production of the 16 page Phoenix brochure and 4 page flyer. These two items promote the entire Phoenix creative programme – including up to 30 films, festivals, art exhibitions, events, training courses and the Café Bar. Their designs conforms to a template which is adapted each month according to the content to be promoted. Examples of both are available on the advert page.
- Creating designs for digital marketing – including website, social media and email. See Facebook and Twitter pages.
- Design and manage printing of leaflets, flyers, adverts, posters and signage.
- Maintaining our brand identity and managing its development over time.
- Identifying new ways to communicate effectively.
- If required Phoenix can provide hardware and software in house – Mac or PC.
Essential requirement
The successful applicant must be able to support the monthly brochure and flyer production according to strict deadlines every month. This requires 2-3 days concentrated activity around the middle of every month, including close collaboration with a number of colleagues internally.

- Degree or equivalent in graphic design.
- Membership of relevant professional body.
Experience & Achievement
- At least 3 years’ experience providing professional graphic design services – either in house, agency or freelance.
- Track record in designing promotional materials that appeal to a wide range of consumers.
- Design and production of regular promotional materials that cover a diverse range of products or services.
- A portfolio of work which shows contemporary design flair and experience producing work for consumer audiences.
- Experience promoting cinema, arts programmes and education programmes.
- Experience working on brands which target young adult audiences.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Ability to manage the complete design process.
- Ability to work under pressure and to set deadlines.
- Strong teamworking skills.
- Experience in budgetary control and costing promotional materials.
- Ability to understand consumers and to design content that is appealing.
- Understanding of digital marketing – how companies use websites, social media and email etc.
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good written English and proofing skills.
- Promotional copywriting ability.
- Taking photographs – professional standard and/or ‘instagram’ style.
- Experience with Wordpress.
- Video editing skills.
- A wider understanding of marketing as a business function.
- Knowledge of world cinema and/or digital arts.
