Context

Right To Play UK (RTP UK) was established in 2006 and, in partnership with Right To Play International, operates in 18 countries worldwide. The UK team generates £2 million per annum to support our work in improving education for disadvantaged children across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, through the power of sport and play. Reporting directly to the National Director, and working with the wider RTP UK team and International finance team, the Finance & Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the UK office and the effective financial management of the charity.

Key responsibilities

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT & ACCOUNTING

  • To have overall responsibility for the receipt, safekeeping and banking of all monies received
  • To ensure that all donations and other income are recorded in the accounting and database management systems in a timely and accurate manner
  • To process all invoices and expense claims and ensure all proper financial controls are followed
  • To liaise with the payroll provider and to ensure the monthly payroll is correct
  • To liaise with external auditors in financial statement preparation and on all tax matters
  • To prepare a monthly reconciliation of all bank statements and balance sheet accounts
  • To maintain, develop and implement organisational policies with the Senior Management Team

FINANCIAL PLANNING & REPORTING

  • To provide timely and accurate monthly management reports
  • To work with the National Director to develop and implement annual budgets and ensure the appropriateness of assumptions
  • To prepare financial reports for presentation to the Finance and Audit Committee and the Board of Trustees, and to support the annual audit and Annual Accounts
  • To manage the cash flow for the charity and to ensure a 3-month reserve is maintained

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • To act as primary point of contact for HR matters
  • To act as point of contact with the contracted IT provider on all IT issues
  • To act as liaison with the property manager and point of contact for matters related to the premises
  • To ensure that statutory requirements of the Charities Commission, HMRC, Companies House and charity regulators are satisfied
  • To manage the day-to-day operation of the office, systems and equipment including Data Protection

DATABASE MANAGEMENT

  • To oversee the proper use of our database, including data integrity, and to ensure the team is properly trained on using the system
  • To be the main point of contact for UK staff and RTP International for the database

Experience and skills
  • 3+ years of experience in a financial role and educated to degree standard or equivalent E
  • Excellent numeracy skills plus the ability to maintain and present financial and non-financial data in a clear and accurate way E
  • A high level of proficiency at producing and reviewing management accounts to ensure accuracy and robust forecasting E
  • Solid understanding of general accounting concepts, including double entry book keeping and accruals accounting E
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and plan own work and manage conflicting demands E
  • Strong and confident communication skills and an ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and supporters E
  • Makes decisions that improve day-to-day work procedures, practices and efficiency E
  • Ability to manage relationships and negotiate with suppliers E
  • Experience of using accounting systems, such as Sage, and strong IT skills, in particular Microsoft Office applications E
  • Knowledge of using database systems such as Microsoft CRM or Raisers Edge D
  • Experience of a year-end audit and an understanding of FRS 102 D
  • Experience working in a charity and an understanding of charity regulations D
  • Experience of managing an office including tenancy and office equipment D
