Job title: Ecunite Christian Youth Worker (6 month contract)

Responsible to:Ecunite Project Manager

Hours of work: 10 hours per week, predominately but not exclusively worked over two half-days on Wednesday, Saturday and / or Sunday

Job purpose:To build upon and develop our current Christian youth, children’s and schools work

Due to the nature of the role, there is a genuine occupational requirement that the successful post holder is a practising Christian

Main Responsibilities:

1)To work with the Project Manager to develop the current Christian Enterprise Project in Totley All Saints CofE Primary School (TASS)

2)To develop the above project in Dore Primary School

3)To work with local churches to run Messy Church in TASS on a termly basis

4)To develop leadership opportunities within Messy Church for young people

5)To work in partnership with local Churches and Christian organisations to develop further children’s work across the area

6)To run a monthly youth church session at St John’s Methodist Church, Swinton

7)To help organise and run the holiday club at Thorpe Hesley with the Ecunite Project Manager and volunteers from the Church in May half-term

8)To be part of a team which plans and organises United, a termly youth event aimed at young Christians in Wakefield.

9)To organise a sports event for young people from local Churches in the summer holidays

10)To work with the Project Manager to publicise and recruit students to the Aurora Youth and Children’s Ministry training courses

11)To help plan a residential with the Yours Project during the Easter Holidays. There is further funding available for the successful candidate to attend the residential as a leader if appropriate.

12)To run other events in partnership with local Churches during school holidays as and when required.

13)To ensure that all project work meets the YMCA’s Youth Work principles statement and supports the aims and purposes of the YMCA

14)To attend relevant training and participate in regular line management/supervision meetings

15)To work with other YMCA staff & volunteers and be in contact with people from a variety of other relevant agencies and the general public

16)To operate within the guidelines established for all YMCA staff, and to contribute effectively to the staff team

17)To undertake any other appropriate duties that are commensurate with the post, as required from time to time by the Project Manager

Environment:

The post holder will be required to work predominately in a School and Church environment, with some work in the Sheffield Office.

The post holder will be expected to travel as required.

The post holder will be expected to work occasionally in the evenings and at weekends.

A youth work qualification at level 2 or 3 or equivalent, or working towards a qualification at present. / A First Aid Qualification
Minimum 1 Year’s experience of youth and children’s work in a Christian / Church context / Own transport
Proven ability to engage positively with children and young people in a range of environments / Good IT skills
Experience of working with other organisations and partners to deliver joint projects
Excellent interpersonal skills including spoken and presentation skills within a group setting.
A practising Christian
Self-motivated, enthusiastic, committed.
Willing and able to work in the evenings and weekends as required.
Ability and willingness to travel around the areas in which we work as required.
Good understanding of child protection and safeguarding
Good understanding of health and safety issues
