Scope of Responsibilities

Director of Exceptional Children, Preschool/Child Care, & Gifted/Talented Children Services

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Oversees Exceptional Children
  2. Preschool/Child Care
  3. Gifted/Talented Children
  4. Oversees ELL
  5. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like in order to communicate these objectives to students.
  6. Implements board policies, administrative regulations and school rules governing student life and conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
  7. Duties may include performance of health services, for which training will be provided.
  8. Directs the program assessment and placement activities of exceptional child education.
  9. Provides leadership in working with Principals and school staffs in planning and implementing district, state and federal guidelines, policies and procedures.
  10. Maintains and compiles data to be used in research to assess effectiveness of the program.
  11. Supervises and provides direction to implement goals, objectives and functions of the organizational unit.
  12. Initiates policy, formulates and recommends program goals and objectives as appropriate.
  13. Develops the operating budget for the organizational unit and assures that all functions operate within the appropriated amounts.
  14. Provides effective leadership to implement performance evaluation procedures for staff.
  15. Cooperates and coordinates with other organizational units and Principals to implement common goals and objectives.
  16. Assumes effective implementation of district goals and objectives where applicable.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Three (3) years successful administrative and teaching experience
  3. Must possess state certification in P-12 and any other certifications required to fulfill position
  4. Hold an administrative and supervision license
  5. Experience and preparation required by the Board.
  6. Ability to absorb, analyze, organize and communicate information and ideas
  7. Understanding of applicable state and federal laws
  8. Demonstrated leadership ability within diverse groups

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Master’s Degree or equivalent years experience
  2. Advanced preparation or doctorate

Physical Demands

The work is primarily sedentary. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work at times requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment.
