Job Title:Director of PreK-5

Supervisor: Chief Academic Officer

Terms of Employment:12 Months

Position Summary:

Assist teachers in improving student achievement through understanding the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Implementation of the Bright From The Start Pre-K Grant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the development and implementation of a K-5 uniform curriculum and assessment program for ELA, Math, and Social Studies
  2. Manage Task Stream for K-5
  3. Analyze and report data on the state of the elementary curriculum
  4. Assist in the supervision of academic coaches and chair k-5 Academic coaches meetings.
  1. Coordinate textbook and resource review for adoption and purchase by the system; conduct yearly textbook inventories as well as purchase of new books and materials
  2. Conduct or assist in meetings and/or workshops with elementary faculty and parents.
  3. Assist with interviewing and hiring new staff.
  1. Network/collaborate with other curriculum leaders in our district and in the state
  2. Participate/ assist with k-5 testing (SLO, GKIDS, CRCT, etc.)
  3. Support the schools and their leadership as needed in all areas of curriculum and instruction
  4. Assist with the creation and implementation of School Improvement Plans
  5. Conduct Kindergarten Round-up
  6. Assist the district with the SACS CASI and Georgia Accreditation processes
  7. Assist with the implementation of grants such as RT3 and 21st CCLC
  8. Meet with parents and community stakeholders as needed to articulate the curriculum
  9. Implement Georgia's Pre-K Program at 3 sites
  10. Work in close partnership with local/regional BFTS Consultant
  11. Construct and maintain rosters and waitlists for all sites
  12. Conduct PK registration and PK Lottery
  13. Supervise all PK staff
  14. Prepare and reconcile yearly PK budgets
  15. Purchase all supplies and materials required for program implementation
  16. Conduct orientation for both staff and parents
  17. Facilitate the registration and training sessions of all PK staff
  18. Participate in all applicable PK conferences, trainings and meetings
  19. Conduct PK training for teachers
  20. Conduct PK parent sessions
  21. Implement Summer Transition Program each year grant is available
  22. Ensure the smooth and optimum functioning of the project
  23. Conduct Read-for-The Record Campaign and additional PK Initiatives such as Georgia PK Week
  24. Assist with PK teacher and student assessments (SLO, WSO, CLASS, TKES, etc.)
  25. Supervise WSO
  26. Create partnerships and mutually beneficial collaboration with other providers such as Head Start
  27. Continuously work to increase the number of PK classes in the district

  1. Conduct fall and spring data collections (student rosters, number of segments, qualifying scores, etc.)
  2. Conduct EIP school contact meetings as needed
  3. Assist school leadership in scheduling EIP students
  4. Assist schools in assigning appropriate interventions or instructional strategies for EIP students as requested
  5. Create consistent EIP documentation (i.e., Parent letters regarding entrance and exit, etc.) and ensure use by all schools
  6. Assist registrars in the correct scheduling and enrollment in VCS Student Information System
  7. Calculate number of FTE and potential faculty numbers
  8. Imagination Library Project – Valdosta Rotary Clubs
  9. Dream Project – Dr. Cason, VSU, Pinevale Alumni Group
  10. Boys and Girls Club Advisory Council
  11. Partnership with various PK providers in our district – for example; Parent Literacy Presentation at Hallmark Heights.
  12. Participates in staff meetings, professional learning, serve on staff committees, and attend training sessions as required.
  13. Follow federal and state laws, abides by all Code of Ethics for Educators, as well as School Board policies.
  14. Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/License/Education/Training/Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Five years of successful professional practice or administrative experience or combination thereof

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises PK employees and K-5 Academic Coaches. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, applicable laws, and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
