Job Title: Director of Operations and Maintenance

Salary Scale: A5 Adm. Scale

Reports To:Superintendent

FLSA Status:Exempt

SUMMARY

This position is classified as a level 5 on the Administrative pay scale and salaried for 260 workdays, 8 hours per day. Primary function of the position is to lead and supervise all areas of operations and maintenance personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Supervise all phases of safety for the School Division.
  • Assumes responsibility for the training and certification of all employees under supervision.
  • Plans, develops, and organizes school division’s comprehensive energy management program.
  • Assists the School Board and Superintendent in developing school division’s maintenance, operations, and capital improvement budgets.
  • Leads and assists school construction and renovation.
  • Responsible for implementing school division asbestos management program and keep current of government regulations pertaining to school building maintenance and operations.
  • Coordinates and implements work orders for school building maintenance.
  • Negotiates school division maintenance and building service contracts with outside vendors...
  • Provides safety meetings and inservice training for maintenance and custodial workers.
  • Supervises maintenance workers.
  • Oversees all purchases within the maintenance department ensuring procurement procedures are met.
  • Routinely and on demand submits written and oral reports and presentations concerning maintenance department functions to Superintendent, School Board, County Executives and the Federal, State, and Local agencies as necessary.
  • Assists school level administration with the supervision of the custodial program.
  • Evaluates school buildings and grounds to insure safety, timely repair, preventive maintenance, adequate air quality and energy conservation.
  • Other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A four (4) year degree in Education, Construction Management, or Engineering is preferred.
  2. A Post Graduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in administration or Masters in Business Administration is preferred.
  3. At least five (5) years successful experience in school administration, supervision of commercial building maintenance/construction, or related field is preferred.
  4. Have demonstrated aptitude and ability for successfully performing all of the tasks included in this description.
  5. Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with School Board, school personnel, general contractors, architects, engineers and membersof the community.
  6. Have evidence of general knowledge in construction and maintenance and the supervision of both types of projects.
