SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the Director of Operations. The Dental Director works in a leadership role on the management team to oversee the clinical care provided in the dental clinic. The Dental Director also provides general dental care to patients of the dental clinic and serves as a preceptor for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assures appropriate quality dental care. Leads and monitors dental quality assessment and improvement program.

Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory standards (PCER, JCAHO, OSHA, MDHP, etc.)

Creates and implements dental protocols.

Participates in the development of strategic plans and implementation of strategies to improve practice management efficiency.

Manages dental care to maximize dental health through appropriate diagnosis, treatment and referrals.

Responsible for implementations, through daily operations, of the mission and values of Muskegon Family Care.

Assists in creating and implementing dental clinic budget.

Participates in community dental initiatives, which may include providing education or assisting community health groups in a dental advisory capacity.

May precept dental students and interface with medical education programs.

Identifies and suggests solutions related to problems of staffing, utilization of facilities, equipment and supplies.

Serves as a member of the management team that promotes effective relations with patients, community members, and government organizations.

Directly supervises Dentists and assures quality dental care.

Serves as an advisor to the Executive Director on the development of specific programs, products and services.

Coordinates implementation plans with Executive Director and other team members to ensure organizational problems are resolved.

Maintains a courteous, helpful and conscientious attitude in dealing with co-workers and patients and their families ensuring professionalism and confidentiality at all times.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 6-8 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Doctoral degree (D.D.S. or D.M.D.) and more that 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform top prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current State of Michigan Dentist License, Substance Control License, and DEA License.
