Job Title:Celebrity Relationship Manager

Reports to:Head of Communication and Marketing

Purpose:To develop and implement a celebrity and ambassador strategy to support Sparks’ fundraising and communications activities

Main responsibilities:

  • To assist the Head of Communicationand Marketing in the creation and implementation of an effective celebrity strategy (across sport, entertainment, media and royal patrons), aligning it to the wider charity plans for growth, including fundraising and communications
  • To identify and recruit new celebrity patrons, ambassadors and agents, securing their long term support to Sparks across a broad mix of activities including fundraising, PR, campaigning and networking for example
  • To develop and maintainoutstanding relationships with our existing celebrity patrons, ambassadors and agents, delivering a first class partnership experience and strengthening the link to our medical research programmes
  • To develop and implement an innovativecelebrity fundraising strategy to secure repeat, long term and predictable sources of income and gifts in kind
  • To recruit and manage a series of regional celebrity groups to assist with regional fundraising activities and help generate local awareness of Sparks and our work
  • To work with other colleagues across Sparks, (specifically the Heads of Regional Fundraising, Events and Corporate Partnerships) to secure celebrity support, managing expectations around the charity’s ability to provide celebrities on demand and ensure requests are realistic, timely and appropriate
  • To continually assess the impact of celebrity involvement, ensuring that we value their commitment appropriately whilst maximising all fundraising, PR and awareness raising opportunities
  • To provide outstanding stewardship to all our celebrity patrons ensuring that they are highly valued, recognised and supported, inspiring them with our vision as well as providing the necessary knowledge and skills to represent Sparks effectively
  • To manage and monitor income and expenditure budgets, setting ambitious targets to meet objectives, improve cost-income ratios and long-term sustainability
  • To maintain accurate records of all communication and developments, ensuring that Raiser’s Edge database is updated and reviewed continually
  • To review and establish processes, systems, policies, contracts, consent forms and, where appropriate, standard procedures for all celebrity requestsin an effort to maximise efficiency and return on investment
  • To contribute to the development of the overall fundraising and communications strategy and budget, working across the charity to ensure effective information sharing, planning and delivery
  • To be accountable to the Head of Communication and Marketing for achieving agreed targets and provide regular reports in relation to celebrity support, fundraising activities and recruitment
  • To maintain a broad awareness of developments and trends in the sporting and celebrity environment by developing and maintaining an active network of contacts and ensuring that any potential opportunities are maximised.
  • To manage the health and safety of celebrities when acting on behalf of Sparks, including conducting risk assessments as appropriate, and ensuring they have access to, and participate in, appropriate instruction, training and supervision if required.
  • To be flexible in approach and undertake any other relevant duties or projects delegated by the Head of Communication and Marketing, which are in line with the responsibilities of the post
Person Specification

Education level:Degree level education or equivalent in fundraising

Desirable:

  • Membership of the CIPR or other appropriate professional body
  • Existing relationships with celebrities and agents
  • Current knowledge and understanding of the sporting world
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical research and related issues

Experience, knowledge and skills:

  • At least three years demonstrable experience of working directly with celebrities, sports people and agencies to deliver media coverage, fundraising, and awareness objectives
  • Excellent understanding of communications and procedures to work with celebrities, sports people and agents
  • Ability to lead the development and research of a wide range of celebrities, sports people and their agents
  • A successful track record of recruiting new celebrity patrons and maximising value from existing relationships
  • Proven experience of motivating, and managing celebrities
  • Demonstrable experience of researching, developing and recording details of all contacts and communications with celebrities, sports people and agencies
  • Proven track record of budget management and financial planning
  • IT proficiency to a self-supporting standard in Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge would be desirable

Physical Requirements:Must be prepared to travel as required and work evenings and weekends if required
