Job title:Campaigner, Corruption Investigations Team, Conflict & Fragile States strand, Level 1
Reports to:Campaign Leader, Corruption Investigations Team, Conflict & Fragile States strand.
Salary: £36,894
Location: London, with overseas travel as required
Role Purpose
Working as a campaigner within the Corruption Investigations Team(Conflict & Fragile States Strand)you willconduct investigations anddevelop and implement advocacy strategiesto break the links between natural resources, conflict, corruption and climate change in a range of countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Congo (Brazzaville) and Afghanistan.
Key Responsibilities
Advocacy and investigations
- Implement advocacy strategies in order to achieve political change;
- Plan and carry out high quality investigations;
- Influence a broad range of decision makers and opinion formers through robust and evidence-based research, investigations and advocacy;
- Contribute to the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of Global Witness’ advocacy and campaign outcomes.
Relationships and Partnerships
- Proactively identify, develop and leverage productive relationships with key opinion formers and policy makers and influence the development of policy and legislation;
- Drive a collaborative approach to political change through developing and participating in coalitions with a diverse range of stakeholders including non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government officials, think-tanks, businesses, law enforcement agencies and the public.
Communications
- Work in partnership with the communications team to turn complex policy and legislative issues into digestible, powerful communications which help create conditions for change;
- Develop written communications for a range of external audiences including: politicians, campaign supporters, the media, the public;
- Build good relationships with members of the media and proactively look for innovative and effective ways to communicate our core messages;
- Prepare materials on key policy areas for Global Witness’ website, social media, for blog posts and talking points.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
- Experience carrying out advocacy with governments, intergovernmental organisations and/or private sector;
- Experience in carrying out investigations;
- Experience of influencing decision makers and thought leadersby establishing and maintaining strong partnerships;
- Fluency in written and spoken French and English
- Demonstrable understanding of the links between advocacy, policy-making, legislation, and implementation;
- Experience of conducting research, data analysis and knowledge of investigative and research techniques;
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate with diverse audiences in a clear and effective way;
- Skilled in adapting influencing approaches and communication styles to meet the differing needs of a broad and diverse range of stakeholders;
- Good interpersonal and team-working skills including diplomacy, negotiation and the ability to motivate others;
- Ability to be flexible, respond positively to change, and work effectively under pressure and deal with conflicting priorities;
- Good project management skills;
Desirable
- Fluency in other languages, particularly written and/or spoken Dari, Chinese or Arabic;
- Knowledge of the financial sector, transparency and corruption issues;
- Experience of conducting investigations using social media and geolocation techniques;
- Knowledge of how to achieve political change through the EU institutions, in China or the US;
- Knowledge or understanding of media law, including UK law on libel.
