Job Title: Assistant Director of Apprenticeships

Reporting to: Chief Operating Officer

Responsible for:All Teaching Assessors and IQA’s for own area

Role Overview:

  • A national role to develop direct delivery strategies and marketing strategies for sourcing & delivery our growth for Apprenticeships. To roll out those strategies to ensure contract KPI achievement and C1 (gross profit) is achieved.
  • To be an essential part of the outward facing employer led team sourcing employers to support the Apprenticeships Levy for your own area.
  • To be accountable for the overall contract management KPI’s and delivery of all Apprenticeships contracts delivery.
  • To manage all the Teaching Assessors and IQA’s under your control (for Apprenticeships and contracts as designated)

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Develop and lead on Apprenticeships strategies and deliver the Apprenticeships levy and non levy contract KPIs and C1. Being responsible for ensuring that all deliverables are achieved and that the revenue and C1 profit for the contract is maximised in line with the approved budgets.
  • To monthly performance manage this roles supply chain. Hold monthly review meetings, set and record actions for next review to achieve profiles / C1.
  • To develop strategic relationships with other relevant organisations/ stakeholders to enable the Ixion Group to develop and expand its range of contracts, products and services to ensure the corporate health of the organisation and to drive efficient and respected service delivery.
  • To be outward facing meeting and sourcing employers for Apprenticeships
  • To build the Apprenticeships direct delivery, by attracting and sourcing new learners in key sectors (Health & Social Care, Construction, Social media etc) and then recruiting Teaching Assessors and quality staff to deliver operationally.
  • To ensure that all delivery is OFSTED GOOD or above.
  • Ensure your area achieves necessary quality standards eg MERLIN/ MATRIX/ PAT etc
  • To be a lead in the Safeguarding, British Values & PREVENT agenda
  • Work with the Head of Teaching, Learning and Assessment to ensure that where applicable the appropriate EPA is in place to assure a high quality end to end journey for all Apprenticeships.
  • Support the COO to develop new standards and higher level Apprenticeship provision up to level 7
  • Be instrumental in developing innovative delivery models and putting in place operational procedures for successful contract delivery.
  • Be continuously aware of the financial impact of their contract performance on the Group and ensure they have procedures that could be adopted by the Group to improve performance and Contribution 1 (C1) delivery.
  • Clearly understand the customer needs and ensure Ixion has the business model, delivery ability, resources and ability to deliver at a consistently high level and that the contract is profitable and delivers contractual outputs to the customers.
  • Achieve the financial performance targets contained in the Ixion business plan and their own Contribution 1 (C1).
  • Working closely with the Head of Teaching Learning and Assessment to ensure all required quality standards are maintained and improved.
  • Work with the Assistant Director for National Accounts and be responsible increasing the value of each contract through the identification of enhanced services that can be supplied by Ixion.
  • To work closely with the COO, Assistant Director for National Accounts and Heads of Service to support cross inter divisional working and drive income and outcomes.
  • Work with the Group FD on corporate governance and contracts within the business area.
  • Work in collaboration with accounts to ensure the costing of commercial and public sector proposals are in line with profit targets and margins for Ixion.
  • Review and advise on systems, processes and software that could be utilised to improve overall efficiency of operation increasing Ixion profitability.
  • Continuously review and support the implementation of new internal processes and systems to drive quality of provision in line with the needs of Ixion.
  • To ensure all specific processes and systems are reviewed, improved and up to date to meet the changing needs of each industry sector in line with government guidelines.
  • Prepare required reports, and with the COO manage the day-to-day operational contact with commissioners etc and attend all contract and sub-contractor meetings.
  • Oversee/ensure the safety and suitability of any Ixion premises and by association all users of services relating to this area.
  • To keep all staff/ clients and stakeholders safe and secure while engaged with Ixion
  • To provide the appropriate levels of assistance to successfully establish the delivery of the contracts.

  • Strictly adhere to all IXION processes and procedures
  • Ensure individual expertise and subject area knowledge is up to date through Continuous Personal Development, including sharing good practice, engaging with training and acquiring / maintaining any individual qualifications required for the role.
  • Work flexibly in the field and across offices, as and when directed by line manager.
  • As necessary, and in addition to the above, undertake other activities commensurate with the nature of the post.

Experience and Qualifications required

Essential

  • Apprenticeships experience – and an excellent knowledge of the Apprenticeship Levy
  • Senior Contract manager experience in the Skills sector, having worked on ESFA or ESF Skills contracts (ideally for several years)
  • Proven Gross profit and contract KPI performance
  • Evidence of excellent relationship building with Employers to support sustained business growth
  • Ability to interrogate and analyse data to consistently improve success rates whilst widening participation across different groups of learners.
  • Be able to source learners to grow skills contracts
  • Have successfully managed supply chains
  • Experience with working with major employers

Desirable:

  • Relevant teaching experience in one of the delivery sectors
  • All round understanding of Government funded business (5+ years’ experience).
  • Has a leading /respected reputation in the skills sector
  • Been a senior skills leader that has driven growth strategies and expansion
  • Has extensive understanding of various employer organisations and operations and significant connections within the skills sector.
  • Knowledge of contract law and terms and conditions of contract.
  • Commercial business experience and experience of employer engagement.
  • Excellent customer account management skills.
  • ESF Quality and compliance knowledge and experience
  • Financial and budgetary skills essential for costing business opportunities and ensuring C1 contributions are met.
  • Excellent PC skills (e.g. Advanced Word; Intermediate Excel).
  • Strong analytical, influencing skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management skills essential.
  • Attention to detail and ability to construct factual reports and recommendations.
  • A persuasive individual with excellent communication skills.
