Reporting to:Learning Manager

Aim

  • Develop and deliver an inspirational and varied arts programme(performing, creative, visual) for Crisis Skylight clients
  • Deliver up to 13 hours of activity per week to groups of learners in your specialist areas
  • Plan and resource (materials, sessional tutors, etc.) approximately 12 further hours of activity per week in a variety of artistic disciplines

Dimensions

  • Supervision of sessional tutors and volunteers
  • Delegated responsibility for day to day management of a budget for materials, venue hire and other purchases related to the delivery of services and reporting on this to the Learning Manager

Circumstances

  • 28 hours per week
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required and time off in lieu will be given in accordance with Crisis TOIL policy
  • Based in Swansea initially with services delivered on an outreach basis across South Wales and therefore access to own transport is essential
  • The role involves working with vulnerable adults and young people and so a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure & Barring System check is required
  • Crisis Skylight South Wales runs three terms per year and offers summer provision. Term breaks are used for training and preparation for the next term.

Salary

  • (£30,958pa pro rata) £24,766

Principal accountabilities

  • Develop a varied arts programme (creative, visual and performing) in consultation with the Learning Manager, Skylight clients and partner organisations
  • Promote, coordinate & manage the participation of Skylight clients in internal / external exhibitions, festivals, market stalls and performances
  • Arrange group trips to performances, exhibitions and other related arts activities
  • Ensure delivery of the agreed programme of activities and take responsibility for ensuring high quality and efficiency
  • To encourage the involvement of the wider community
  • Make hiring and cost recommendations for the arts programme. Arrange payment for facilities usage materials, equipment and sessional tutors as needed
  • Manage, support & co-ordinate sessional tutors for arts activities
  • Work with the Crisis Communications team to develop advertising and marketing materials to promote the arts programme
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with a range of homeless organisations, educational establishments, freelance practitioners, artists and craftspeople, voluntary and private organisations
  • Ensure effective communication, via the CSSW Director, with all funders through project reports and evaluation
  • Ensure that any safeguarding concerns are identified and reported in line with Crisis’ procedures

Certification and quality assurance

  • Assess the learners’ progress and attainment against the standards set for the particular programme
  • Make and keep appropriate assessment and member records for accountability purposes
  • Liaise as required with moderators and other representatives of awarding bodies
  • Maintain accreditation procedures and associated paperwork
  • Fulfil accreditation requirements

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Ensure the accurate and timely input of member and outcome data
  • Assist in the collation of accurate monitoring information for reports to internal and external stakeholders

Contribution to the team

  • Develop and share teaching and learning materials with the team and with other Skylight centres
  • Work with the Essential Skills Co-ordinator to embed essential skills into the Arts Curriculum where appropriate
  • Identify learners who would benefit from support from a Progression Coach, Work and Learning Coach or Smart Skills Tutor.
  • Identify learners with the Volunteer Coordinator who would benefit from volunteering opportunities both internally and externally
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Participate in the continual improvement of resources, learning environments and delivery of effective teaching methods and styles
  • Support and manage volunteers as required within the classes

General accountabilities

  • Actively encourage and support member involvement within Crisis
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of Crisis’ work and the needs and circumstances of homeless people
  • Comply with Crisis policies and procedures, including Health and Safety policies, for which all employees owe a duty of care both to themselves and others, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in the light of the main purpose of the job

Person Specification

Essential

  1. Either holds or is willing to work towards a recognised teaching qualification
  2. Experience of working with vulnerable clients or an understanding of the issues affecting homeless people
  3. Experience of delivering arts activities and workshops to small groups
  4. Knowledge and understanding of how to develop a high quality and varied arts programme
  5. Specialist skills in a specific arts discipline (e.g. dance, acting, music, crafts, painting, etc.)
  6. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
  7. Ability to be self-motivated, motivate others and establish effective interpersonal relationships with a range of people
  8. A capacity both to work on your own and as part of a team together with a willingness to reflect upon and develop one’s own practice
  9. Proven time management, prioritisation and organisational skills, and the ability to keep accurate and up to date records, sharing information as and when appropriate
  10. A passion for innovative learning, creativity and engaging people in the arts
  11. Knowledge of and ability to comply with safeguarding procedures
  12. Commitment to Crisis’ purpose and values including equality and social inclusion
  13. Access to own transport with ability to travel throughout Swansea and the region

Desirable

  1. Formal qualification in the arts and/or experience of delivering a range of arts qualifications
  2. Ability to speak Welsh
