Description:This individual is responsible for feeding, cleaning, socializing and caring for the animals within the shelter. They will also assist in cleaning of various aspects of the shelter that are directly related to the animals of our care.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide daily feedings and fresh water to all shelter animals.

Clean and disinfect the animal enclosures daily.

Monitor and report any medical concerns or changes in eating habits of any animal to our medical team immediately.

Monitor and report any behavioral concerns or changes in any animal behaviors to the behavioral team immediately.

Perform basic bathing and grooming of the animals as directed and when needed.

Walk dogs of all sizes several times a day to provide exercise, mental stimulation and allow the dog to eliminate bowels and bladder accordingly.

Assist with intake, evaluation and treatment of incoming animals.

Follow all pre-established shelter guidelines for the humane handling of all animals in our care at all times.

Operate laundry and dishwashing equipment.

Maintain equipment in working condition and report any equipment and supply needs to the Animal Care Manager.

Participate in activities to help socialize the animals within the shelter.

Work within a team providing assistance and support to fellow employees as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Availability to commit to set work schedule every week.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk dogs of all sizes.
  • Wiliness to follow guidelines for humane handling of all animals at all times.
  • Ability to work with a team of both staff and volunteers and change direction and multitask as needed.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Previous experience working at a shelter and/or working with dogs and cats is a plus.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within various areas of facility and the surrounding outside areas. All personnel must wear non-slip laced shoes to maintain safety on various surfaces throughout the facility and surrounding areas. Work requires direct handling of all animals that are in our care. Handling of various cleaning agents is required to perform the duties outlined above. Employee will be expected to be able to stand, bend, reach, kneel, and walk for extended time periods throughout the work day.
