Role Description

Your primary role is to deliver swim coaching and land training sessions within the KAL Swim Performance Programme. You will be part of an experienced team which supports the full Aquatic Pathway in Kirklees. In the remainder of your time you will have administration tasks to complete so you need to be organised and manage your time well.

You will support the Head Coach in the co-ordination of the training and competition planning and work with the instructors / coaches of the KAL Aquatics programme to create a coordinated approach to developing a higher level of performance of swimmers through the pathway.

You will become a valued member of the coaching team and input towards the programme development and criteria along with providing a high level of communication to parents and the swimming network.

There will be an expectation that you will support BOK Swimming Club as a volunteer at specific events identified by the coaches on the annual calendar.

You will have the opportunity to be coach mentored, developed and increased educations to support and enhance your current career within performance swimming and sports development.

You will be expected to liaise with local partners and clubs to provide as many opportunities for talent development within Kirklees.

You will deal with enquiries and we have a range of IT systems in place to use. You will get to know our systems and use them as part of your daily routines to communicate with others, record progress and perform general administration tasks such as participation monitoring.

This role is development led and therefore incremental progression will be tied into the success of your development. You will be required to evidence your achievements in six monthly reviews in order to gain a salary increment.

Key Tasks

  • Take responsibility for leading, coaching and delivering programme performance sessions across KAL whilst ensuring the safety of participants through guidance, instruction, supervision and demonstration
  • Administrative tasks related to the post including but not limited to; the continual update of the Learn 2, Plus 2 and SharePoint systems and creation of reports and information documents
  • Liaise with internal and external partners.
  • Support apprentices and volunteers to develop within their roles
  • Support BOK swimming Club as a volunteer coach
  • Advise and assist customers with their enquiries and any feedback.

A Criteria

  • The ability to demonstrate the KAL Values – ONE TEAM, PASSION, EXCELLENCE
  • A minimum of 6 month’s experience swim coaching
  • Have an understanding of physical activity in line with LTAD and have recent experience of leading and supervising sessions
  • Basic knowledge and experience of health and safety
  • Level 2 in Maths and English, or equivalent
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
  • Strong organisation skills with the ability to complete a wide range of administration skills within set timescales
  • A confident and friendly approach
  • IT experience
  • Flexibility with working hours (morning training, evenings and weekends are a must)
  • Hold a level 2 ASA Swimming instructor/coaching(Post 1997)
  • Hold the RLSS Lifeguard Qualification or equivalent or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teaches and Coaches (NRASTC) (for Aquatics posts only)

  • Manual Handling certificate / Knowledge and experience of moving and handling sports / activity equipment
  • Institute of Customer Service First Impressions certificate
  • Experience of supporting, supervising or mentoring staff and volunteers
  • Experience of planning / delivery project work
  • Experience of networking and partnership work
  • KAL product knowledge
  • Knowledge of a variety of IT systems, eg TRP, Sharepoint, Plus2 and Learn2

Behavioural Competencies

The role of a Sports & Activity Activator (3) is Band 2 and you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to work at this level, satisfying the majority of the behaviours at application. You would then be expected to progress until you are consistently meeting all the competencies within Band 2.

You are expected to provide evidence of how you meet these competencies as part of the application process. These competencies may be tested within the interview process
