Job Purpose

Save the Children has an expanding in-house film production unit with 4 Avid edit stations working across a shared storage network and a LTO Data tape system for back up and archiving footage. The Film Editor will work within the Film and Photography team to edit and deliver excellent films to a variety of briefs. They will also help to develop standardised workflows for all aspects of post production and provide day to day support to other users of the edit suites (freelance editors or other members of staff), ensuring that standard procedures are adhered to at all times.

Key accountabilities specific to this role

1.  Work closely with the Film Manager to edit together fully finished films, incorporating effects and graphics and outputting to a variety of HD and SD formats.

2.  Liaise with internal clients across Save the Children UK and international to develop and deliver high quality content.

3.  Ensure film content falls within brand and stylistic guidelines.

4.  Develop efficient post production workflows for the film unit including day to day management of our shared storage server (AVID Unity emulation) and Xen Data back up / archiving systems.

5.  Provide a first level of technical support to other users of the edit suites.

6.  Shoot London / UK based interviews and record voice over as required to complete projects, using a variety of professional digital camcorders.

7.  Undertake other work as requested by the Head of Film and Photography and Film Manager

Internal: Work with colleagues at all levels of the organisation, both in the UK and internationally.

External: Your main external contacts will be external suppliers and partner organisations.

Person specification

·  Proven track record in editing audio visual materials from brief, ideally for a humanitarian organisation and/or broadcaster

·  Proven track record of working on a wide variety of complex briefs from a variety of clients

·  Demonstrable knowledge of what makes a good visual story

·  Proven track record using Avid (and ideally also Final Cut Pro) to edit and knowledge of editing across shared storage systems (eg Avid Unity)

·  Proven track record of outputting/encoding in a range of formats to broadcast standards

·  Proven track record of trouble shooting technical problems during the editing process

·  Experience of working with other multi-media production programmes such as Aperture or Lightroom, photoshop, After Effects / Borris Effects

·  Experience of working with TV broadcasters, and understanding of their resource needs.

·  Excellent time management skills

·  Ability to prioritise competing demands on your time while under pressure.

·  Excellent communications skills combining diplomacy and the ability to negotiate

·  Ability to understand and accept the requirement for sensitivity/confidentiality when handling information

·  Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin all aspects of work.
