Thanks for your interest in the post of temporary Farm Worker.

This is an important post for Ragmans as it deals with the day-to-day work of all aspects of the farm. The role is varied. The post holder will need excellent communication skills, self motivation, have a flexible approach to work and be willing to undertake routine tasks and physical work in all weathers. Please see the job description and person specification for details.

The post is being advertised as a temporary post with an opportunity to start from May. The post is expected to end in September but there is the possibility of work extending to Christmas 2008. A Senior Farm Worker post is currently being advertised; once this person is in post the permanent Farm Worker post will be considered for recruitment.

Job Description

Temporary Farm Worker, Ragmans Lane Farm

Responsible to: Farm Manager

Hours: 37 hrs a week

Salary: £12,000 pa pro rata

Leave: 24 days a year pro rata.

Bank Holidays are given in addition to this entitlement, although flexibility is needed as courses and events take place at weekends.

Purpose of Job

To support the work of Ragmans Lane Farm, working to the Farm Manager through assisting with the apple juice and mushroom log enterprises, contributing to the education programme delivered at the Farm and to maintaining the upkeep of the farm and the care of livestock. To contribute towards the implementation of the Farm Plan and the development activities of the Farm.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

The main area of work:

·  To inoculate mushroom logs and prepare for market/sales, make apple juice, and undertake seasonal jobs required on the farm as outlined on the farm planner.

·  To package farm produce for despatch and make deliveries.

·  To carry out day-to-day maintenance of farm machinery, ensuring it is serviced and used correctly by farm staff and volunteers. To oversee machinery repairs, either by repairing on farm or calling in third party assistance.

·  To keep the farmland and buildings tidy and in good heart, working from the farm maintenance schedule and as the need arises.

·  To provide an input to courses, assisting with practical sessions and undertake farm tours.

·  To provide cover and to be on hand when needed for on-farm sales, visitors to the farm, courses, deliveries.

·  To attend Farm meetings.

·  To attend markets and represent the Farm at events.

·  To work within all relevant regulatory rules and Farm policies including Health and Safety, COSHE, and RIDDOR, DeFRA, Soil Association etc.
