Job opening: Programme Officer / Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD)

SUMMARY:
APWLD, based in Chiangmai, Thailand, is currently inviting women from Asia Pacific with relevant experience and skills to apply for the
position of Programme Officer for its Women and Environment (WEN) and Rural and Indigenous (RIW) Programmes. The successful applicant must
be able to relocate to Chiangmai, Thailand. The contract is for three years, with a probationary period of six months.
APWLD is a regional network of women's groups and individuals in Asia Pacific, committed to enabling women to use law as an instrument of
social change for equality, justice and development.
The main responsibility is to coordinate with the Task Forces in the planning and implementation of activities under the Women and
Environment (WEN) and/or Rural and Indigenous ( RIW) Programmes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in carrying out APWLD programme of action; conceptualises, implements, monitors log frames and evaluates activities;
- Implements assigned programmes to include activities such as, conferences, consultations, workshops, seminars, training, campaigns, research, etc;
- Coordinates through the Task Force Convenor and Co-convenor and provides secretariat support for Task Forces meetings and approved task forces activities;
- Assists the Finance Officer with the preparation of financial reports related to her programmes;
- Assists the Regional Coordinator in the preparation of project proposals and budgetary requirements for donor agencies;
- Prepares reports and documentation related to her programmes;
- Facilitates with the Information Communication Officer for preparation of publications related to her programmes;
- Assists in preparing for Regional Council and Programme and Management Committee meetings;
- May represent APWLD in regional/international fora as approved by the Regional Coordinator; and
- Performs any other tasks that may be assigned to her by the Regional Coordinator and/or as assigned by the Programme and
Management Committee and Task Force members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed to the promotion of women's human rights;
- Must have a degree in social sciences; degree in law or advanced degree in field of social sciences, human rights or women's studies
is an advantage;
- Must have knowledge of international human rights and development issues in the Asia Pacific;
- Minimum of three years experience in development work and women's rights at the national level required, and at regional level is an
advantage;
- Experience in working on issues related to Women and Environment (WEN) and/or Rural and Indigenous ( RIW) is an advantage;
- Must have knowledge and skills in conceptualisation and planning of programmes as well as implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
- Skills in research, lobbying and advocacy are an advantage;
- Must have excellent command of English language, both oral and written; and should be able to write campaign papers, program reports and project proposals;
- Must have good interpersonal skills, with ability to network and liaise in a multi-cultural environment, through various avenues (i.e. face to face and emails);
- Must have literacy in basic computer programmes such as word and excel;
- Must be able to work independently, and as part of a team; and
- Must be able to travel overseas as required.
