Job Purpose
To carry out the duties of a hands on Team Leader of a small team involved in the erection/dismantling of market stalls and associated infra structure, which forms part of the operational service delivery of Loughborough’s various markets. This includes Thursday and Saturday retail markets, Friday Flea markets, Farmers Markets and various special events/markets and also to provide support in the provision of the annual November Fair.
To ensure the delivery of an effective and appropriate service to all service users, fairly and without discrimination.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. / Be responsible for the efficient use of resources including the onsite supervision of a team of market operatives during the build up and take down of market stalls and associated infra-structure in preparation for Loughborough Markets. Often being in sole technical charge of the setting up / dismantling of the market stalls and infrastructure.
2. / Be responsible for the interpretation of written instructions relating to operational and legislative requirements and take responsibility in ensuring that safe working practices are maintained and carried out in full compliance with current Health and Safety legislation.
3. / Be responsible for the preparation of accurate daily status, and performance briefing notes, signing in records, time sheets, staff rotas, and reports, to all matters relating to the markets operational requirements for regular presentation to the Assistant Markets and Fairs Officer.
4. / Be responsible for the security of all keys and be the primary key holder of the Market Yard, its buildings and equipment, which would in certain emergency situations, necessitate call outs on off duty days.
5. / Take full responsibility for the good order of the market yard during operating times and ensure security of all buildings, storage facilities and equipment at close of operations. Ensure that regular safety inspection of all mechanised equipment is carried out prior to their use and that all defects are reported to the Assistant Markets and Fairs Officer.
6. / To assist the Market, Fairs and Town centre Operations officer in the site preparation and delivery of the annual Loughborough Fair.
Special Factors
It should be noted that many of the above activities require working unsocial hours. This includes early mornings and evening working, every week on Thursdays and Saturdays (other days to suit operational requirements) and often in adverse weather conditions.
