Generic role of post:

The HE Lecturer is responsible for formal education delivery and may be responsible for acting as Module Leader for specific HE and FE modules, liaising with the Programme Manager regarding delivery, assessment and quality assurance of HE modules.

The College framework is to encourage team working where Lecturers, Programme Managers, Team and Curriculum leads work together in a supportive framework to provide the best learning experience for our students.

Specific duties:

1.  Deliver education and training, working to an agreed number of contact hours annually, to include student assessment as required.

2.  Produce and develop Higher Education teaching and learning materials as required, working to Plymouth University and Duchy College standards at all times.

3.  Setting and marking assessments to include written assignments, reports, projects, practical exercises, presentations, tests and examinations, working to Plymouth University and Duchy College HE standards.

4.  Act as a Module Leader for discret Education Modules within the Animal Management HE and FE Programmes. Assist with

·  Programme selection, design, development, approval and currency

·  Programme promotional materials, marketing and recruitment

·  Leading and managing teams delivering a discrete module/modules

·  Assisting with efficient Programme organisation and administration

·  Assisting with student interviews, induction, care and support

·  Curriculum quality and standards, in conjunction with the HE Programme Manager, Team and Curriculum Lead

·  Internal verification and moderation

·  Participation in staff development (including industry-related CPD and HE/FE-related personal development) and performance management review processes

5.  Assisting with development of the facilities and resources available for HE Animal Management teaching and with the management of these, as appropriate

6.  Assisting in the development of research within Animal Management and helping with co-ordination of HE research projects.

7.  Co-ordinate work experience placement for the students in the rural economy business cluster to include:

·  To assist in sourcing work placements and support students in the paperwork placement processes

·  To liaise with PM’s placement visits to monitor the progress of students, and deal effectively with any issues/concerns that arise

·  To carry out Health & Safety assessments of work placements, and to be aware of the issues surrounding Health & Safety/Safeguarding within the work place environment in liaison with the FE employability and work experience coordinators

·  To continue to develop and maintain a database of appropriate employers and relevant industry links. This includes distribution, completion and collation of relevant documentation to providers concerning work placements in a timely manner

8.  Attending evening and weekend meetings and teaching sessions as appropriate.

9.  Becoming actively involved in the Cornwall College Group life of the College and attending organised functions, including College promotional events.

10.  Any other duties as required as may, from time to time, be deemed appropriate to the level and grade of the post. This may involve cover, by agreement and consultation, for absent colleagues.

Any special conditions attaching to the post:

Multi-site delivery may be required to support HE programmes across the Cornwall College Group.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

Essential:

·  Must have or be working towards a nationally approved Stage 3 teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent). New entrants to teaching will be required to start an initial Teacher Training course on appointment.

·  Must have appropriate academic, professional or vocational qualification to level 6 for example a BSc or equivalent in a Veterinary/Veterinary Nursing/ Animal/Equine Science-related subject.

Desirable:

·  MSc or other Post Graduate qualification in a Veterinary/Veterinary Nursing/ Animal/Equine Science-related subject.

Experience:

Essential:

·  Relevant commercial, academic or vocational experience within the Veterinary or animal industry

Desirable:

·  Successful teaching experience.

·  Demonstrable experience as a recognised subject specialist and exemplar.
