YOUTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR

FULL-TIME JOB OPPORTUNITY

Reports directly to the Executive Director, in consultation with Youth Council, the purpose of the position is to ensure the overall management of the Youth Program by developing and facilitating programs and services which are youth oriented, culturally based and holistically designed, based upon the needs of urban aboriginal youth.

Qualifications:

·  Relevant college or university level accreditation in social sciences, recreation or relevant field

·  Previous program management experience

·  Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal community development

·  Awareness of issues pertaining to Aboriginal youth

·  Strong ability to work in a team setting

·  Excellent oral and written communication skills

·  CPR and First Aid Certification

·  Peer counseling experience/training

·  Valid driver’s license (an asset)

·  Knowledge of an aboriginal language is an asset

The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to the following duties:

·  Under the direction of the Executive Director, and in consultation with the Youth Council, oversees and manages all youth program operations, staff and activities

·  Maintain open communication with the Youth Council to insure that youth needs and issues are met

·  Interact and work with the Youth Council and youth program participant in developing programs

·  Responsible for producing necessary reporting, including quarterly program and financial reports, monthly reports to the Board of Directors, administrative reports

·  Assist in the writing and the submission of proposals

·  Plan and facilitate program activities for Youth, specifically those geared to the greater awareness of the unique culture, traditions and heritage of Aboriginal Peoples

·  Coordinate events as needed with other programs within the ONFC, participating in organization and delivery of Odawa functions as required

·  Attend all necessary program and Odawa staff meetings

·  Ensure the participation of all program staff in bi-weekly progress meetings

·  Establish and maintain community contacts with other Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organizations for the purpose of liaising for client needs and networking

·  Participate in Youth community, committees and boards as relevant and necessary

·  Advertise program through media as required

·  Reports to the Executive Director on all matters relating to the delivery of the Youth Program

·  Maintain incident reports

·  Liaise with parents and youth regarding program components, policies and procedures

·  Responsible for directing and coordinating activities of youth support staff, summer/placement students, volunteers or other such employees

·  Advocate for aboriginal youth, ensuring access to community support services

·  Work with other Odawa youth workers and other service providers to identify and address issues

·  Liaise with high schools in the Ottawa region to provide culturally appropriate support to youth, act as a outreach worker to encourage Aboriginal students to stay in school

·  Serve as a resource person for Youth: referrals, education resources etc.

·  Act as an informal counselor to Youth when needed

·  Work flexible hours and weekends as required
