Job Description – Preschool Child Care Teacher (8:00 a.m.—4:30 p.m.)

Job Overview: To organize supplemental activities in support of preschool programming

Job Category: Full time (9 month school year), hourly, preschool classroom staff

This person would report to: Director of Children’s Ministries

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Preschool Staff Development. The Child Care Teacher will:
  1. Assist in making arrangements for substitutes and assist in classrooms as needed.
  2. Prepare and effectively communicate lesson plans for substitute and have necessary materials available when absent from the classroom.

2. Communication and Ministry Staff Development. The Child Care Teacher will:

  1. Effectively communicate with the Preschool Ministry Team, parents/guardians, students, student teachers, volunteers and members of Calvary Lutheran Church ministry staff, maintaining student confidentiality at all times.
  2. Attend workshops and conferences as negotiated with supervisor and Preschool Ministry Team to maintain/update educational requirements for licensure.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned by director.

3. Classroom Expectations. The Teacher will partner with the preschool teachers and director to:

  1. Prepare room arrangements according to the class needs, clean & reset room or space as needed
  2. Establish a routine with Early Drop Off (EDO) staff for early morning drop off times
  3. Organize activities with Late Pick Up (LPU) staff for late pick up times
  4. Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  5. Follow yearly curriculum calendar for classroom use. Plan both long and short range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives of preschool classroom, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.
  6. Develop and prepare high-interest activities for each day of class. Vary activities—large motor, fine motor, social; supplemental activities such as music, art & drama
  7. Encourage and guide children as they interact with activities and with each other.
  8. Become familiar with parents and family members of children. Share pertinent information with them concerning their own child. Maintain daily open communication with parents.
  9. Organize & maintain supplies, toys & equipment. Periodically sanitize & clean toys & equipment. Inspect and notify director of damaged or lost materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Evidence of Christian practice (membership in a Christian church) and ability to communicate the Gospel.
  2. Minimum of 2 year degree in early childhood and experience as required for licensure
  3. Experience in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  4. Temperament and personality traits suited for work with young children and their parents.
  5. Basic computer skills.
  6. Time-management skills, self-motivation, and good organizational skills.
  7. Flexibility and openness to growth.
