Job Description – Nightstop Coordinator

SASH is a registered charity providing accommodation for homeless young people aged 16-25 in the homes of its volunteer hosts. The charity has operated since 1994 and currently provides emergency ‘Nightstop’ and longer-term Supported Lodgings accommodation covering York, North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Hull.

Job Summary

The Nightstop Coordinator has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the referral line for providing emergency accommodation to homeless young people across our operating areas.

This will include taking referrals from our partners, conducting risk assessments on young people to assess their suitability for Nightstop and arranging accommodation with our volunteer hosts.

This is a part-time post working 30 hours per week. The post holder will normally work four days per week with a finish time of 17:30.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

·  During referral hours, respond to requests for emergency accommodation, assessing the client’s suitability for the scheme according to our acceptance criteria and arranging Nightstop accommodation.

·  Coordinate availability of volunteer hosts, ensuring adequate coverage is available at all times.

·  Coordinate the provision of the Nightstop referral service ensuring full coverage during hours of operation.

·  Develop and maintain co-operation with relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies.

·  Work within a framework of good practice in accordance with the aims and objectives of SASH, including the Equal Opportunity Policy, Safeguarding Policies and Confidentiality Policy.

·  Take joint responsibility for carrying out all monitoring and evaluation activities for the Nightstop Service to ensure appropriate internal and external reporting requirements are fulfilled.

·  Contribute to the overall development of SASH including assisting with the development of other projects as needed.

·  To cover the Emergency line out of hours on a rota basis. Extra payment for this duty will be provided.

General Duties

·  Attend regular team meetings and supervision where appropriate.

·  Maintain databases, records and correspondence files.

·  General administrative tasks.

·  Undertake training and development opportunities as identified in personal development planning.

·  Other duties relevant to the organisation as may be identified from time to time by the Operations Manager or Director.

Pay and Conditions

This is a part- time post of 30 hours per week, based in the office in York. Some evening and occasional weekend work is likely, with time off in lieu being available.

The post has been evaluated at points scale 210-219 in the SASH Job Evaluation System. SASH will make a pension contribution of 9% gross annual salary into an approved Pension Scheme of your choosing. Holiday entitlement is 28 days per year with additional bank holidays, pro rata.

Person Specification

Qualification / Good standard of general education including GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
Experience / Experience of conducting risk assessments in a social care context
Experience of working with volunteers or members of the public and/or liaising with other voluntary or statutory sector organisations.
Experience of general administration and maintaining database records
Skills & Abilities / Able to conduct risk assessments on placements for young people in a timely and accurate manner.
The ability to treat confidential data with appropriate sensitivity.
Ability to support and motivate a diverse volunteer base through regular phone contact.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including an excellent telephone manner.
An awareness of equal opportunities issues and the ability to translate this into practice.
Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.
Able to contribute/lead on providing volunteer training
Personal Circumstances / Willingness to work flexibly and occasionally at weekends and in the evening
Willingness to undertake training as identified.
Disposition / Good interpersonal skills
