Job Description - Learning & Development Manager

The Role

To leadonthe identification, coordination anddeliveryof training and developmentprogrammesand interventions forArk staffin order to maximise the potential ofoperationalstaffacross Ark’s networkandtheCentral Team.

Main purpose of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive learning and development plan for the operational staff within our academies as well as theArkcentral office team.The operational staff include all the non-teaching staff in our schools such as finance, HR, premises, communications and marketing, administrators and more.This will include working with internal and external stakeholders to design, scope, manage and implement training, ensuring the specific needs of the network and individual academies are met.

KeyResponsibilities

Designa trainingplan for alloperationalstaff across the academy networkand central team by:

·  Devising and managing strategies for the implementation ofArkwide initiatives based on organisational need.

·  Developing and maintaining knowledge of relevant skill and qualifications levels required by operational staff for effective performance.

·  Managing the planning and roll-out oftrainingprogrammes, events and materials to support operational objectives.

·  Taking responsibility for ensuring that statutory training requirements are met and these training needs are prioritised.

·  Maintain up to date professional knowledge of the changes occurring within the L&D environment.

·  To research and seek opportunities to develop a blended learning approach to the staff development programme

·  Designlearning interventions that are driven by asoundunderstanding of HR data and analytics

·  Undertake effective training needs analysis to understand operational requirements and ensure provision of support successfully meets operational needs

·  Identifying training and development needs for operational staff across the network and at the centre through job analysis, appraisal data and regular consultation with managers and staff

Manage,deliver and ensure the effective execution of a training plan for all operational staff across the academy network and central team by:

·  Working collaboratively with key players in the central team to develop and deliver internal training programmes for operational staff and the central team in line with organisational need

·  Promoting learning and development through various communication methods (presentation, face to face) to key stakeholders.

·  In collaboration with the central operations team, developing business focused training (e.g. finance training) to be delivered to academy senior leaders.

·  Manage the contracting and delivery with external providers of learning and development interventions

·  Monitor and control the costs of planned programmes and assess the return on investment of any training or development programme

·  Working with the Head of People Developmentand other stakeholders to ascertain and support senior managers’ training and coaching requirements in operational areas (e.g. HR, Finance).

·  Evaluating, amending and revising programmes as necessary, in order to continuously improve the training offer and adapt to changes occurring in the work environment.

·  Builda strong relationship with the Professional Development team who are responsible for the training needs of our teachers,andseek opportunities tocollaborateand share practice.

Develop the induction processat Ark by:

·  Ensure the continuous design of high quality, comprehensive induction programme for new staff at Ark academies and in the Ark central team

·  To lead on the delivery of the central team induction programme and evaluate the effectiveness of the programme to ensure that new staff are integrated quickly and effectively into the work ofArk.

·  Provide templates and training for the delivery of local induction at academy level.

·  Ensure thorough implementation and evaluation of the induction programme.

Support the development ofsuccession planning to anticipate future requirementsinacademies and the Arkcentral team by:

·  Working in collaboration with theHead of People Developmentandother key stakeholdersto identify and act upon any development gaps.

·  Explore the value ofdesigning competency frameworks for certain job families, and if needed lead in their design, execution and implementation.

·  In conjunction with the HR team provide advice on personal development plansandensureall staff understandthe appraisal system.

·  Supporting the Head of People Developmentto identify and collate succession planning information to prepare future talent.

·  Collaborate withthe Head of People Developmentto highlight talent issues and develop and implement effective succession and development plans.

Person Specification – Learning and Development Manager

Education & Qualifications

·  Educated to degree level

·  CIPD or CTP qualified or equivalent (Desirable)

·  Right to work in the UK

Knowledge and Experience

·  Significantexperienceindesigning and delivering a variety of training solutionsin a large organisation that is fast paced and going through a period of change

·  Experience of management development and soft skills training

·  Experience of a blended approach to learning such as coaching, classroom training, 1-2-1 sessions, action learning & e-learning

·  Knowledge of virtual learning environments

·  Experience of working in a complex, multi-site environment

·  Knowledge and practical experience of project and programme management tools and techniques

·  Experience of technical learning and organisational development, enabling effective diagnosis of issues and development of innovative and appropriate strategies and solutions

·  Must have experience of working inthe education sector

·  Events management experience is an asset
