JOB DESCRIPTION for the post of Schools Liaison Officer and Outreach Officer

Full time post for a fixed period of 2 years responsible to the Admissions Officer.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

You will work closely with the Senior Tutor, the Admissions Tutors and the Admissions Officer and liaise with Directors of Studies and other Fellows as well as the Students’ Union, the MCR and student societies as appropriate. The role is to support the College’s admissions and outreach activities. Two principal areas are covered:

·  To provide liaison with schools and colleges, particularly in the Local Authority link areas for which Emmanuel is responsible. The principal link areas are Essex and Sheffield. You will also co-ordinate many of the other admissions activities of the Colleges such as school visits, residential courses and summer schools.

·  To manage the College’s participation in the outreach partnership with the Villiers Park Educational Trust which, from summer 2017, will mentor a number of students from schools in Thurrock, Essex.

The candidate appointed will be required to undergo Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checking, as some of the work in this post will involve contact with young people, many of them under the age of 16.

The office-holder will be responsible, in the first instance to the Admissions Officer as line manager, but will also need to work closely with those listed above.

JOB SPECIFICATION

1] Liaison with schools.

You will work closely with the School Liaison and Communications Officer. These duties will be on-going throughout the year but there will be periods of time or particular events when priority must be given to certain high profile initiatives, such as the Summer School. A high level of flexibility and initiative will be required. These duties will include:

·  Representing the College within the Cambridge Area Links Scheme, including trips to Essex and Sheffield to network with schools and Local Authority contacts and to maintain and reinforce those links.

·  Delivering presentations, attending Higher Education Events and meeting teachers.

·  Co-ordinating and hosting regular visits to the College by schools and other groups.

·  Managing the arrangements for the following occasional events: school visits, residential courses, summer schools and open days.

·  Maintaining a database of schools and other contacts.

·  Attending regular access meetings with ECSU (Emmanuel College Student Union) and, in consultation with the Senior Tutor, supporting the undergraduate access officer

·  Ensuring regular contact with CAO (Cambridge Admissions Office) and the Access Press Officers and attending Schools’ Liaison Officer Group meetings.

·  Working with the Admissions Officer in coordinating the admission round for undergraduate students, including providing administrative support such as data input, communicating with applicants and managing files.

·  Coordinating with the College Admissions Office and the Cambridge Admissions Office so that the College can host school visits related to particular events or for other purposes.

·  Working with University departments to run joint access events

·  Working with Directors of Studies to develop and deliver subject-specific taster days

2] Outreach work with Thurrock schools

From summer 2017 the College intends to establish an initiative with the Villiers Park Educational Trust to mentor a group of students from Thurrock schools who have the potential to progress to study at leading universities. The initiative will be led by staff from the Villiers Park Educational Trust, but the Schools Liaison and Outreach Officer will need to coordinate the College’s role in these activities and will be required to visit schools in Thurrock as well as the head quarters of the Villiers Park educational Trust.

3] General

You will observe the Colleges’ Equal Opportunities, the Computer Acceptable Use and Health and Safety Policies at all times as well as the College Policy on the application of the Data Protection Act. Copies of these policy documents will be given to you as part of your induction to employment.

The person appointed will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and duties consistent with the role of Schools Liaison Officer/Events Coordinator as may reasonably be requested from time to time

·  Must have, or be prepared to develop, an understanding of secondary education provision in the British Isles and EU.

·  Good standard of literacy

·  Attention to accuracy

·  Good keyboard skills

·  Good standard of computer literacy with experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access databases (additional training will be available)

·  Clean driving licence
