Job Title: Associate Priest, Youth, Children & Family Ministry Pioneer

Dyffryn Clwyd Mission Area: Comprises 13 parishes in and around the market town of Ruthin, Denbighshire, North Wales. At the centre is St Peter’s Collegiate Church which we call our ‘Eglwys Hwb’ (Hub Church/Minster).The Mission Area team comprises three stipendiary Priests, 5 Readers, 7 Worship Leaders and 1 Pastoral Assistant. All work flexibly across the MA. There are several primary schools, two secondary schools (one is an international private school, the other the local comprehensive school) and an agricultural college. The new Pioneer Priest will live in Lanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd a village close to Ruthin in a well appointed house (details of which can be provided).
Key Responsibilities
•To pioneer and oversee the growth of new areas of ministry to children, young people and families within Dyffryn Clwyd
•To facilitate effective and relevant training of volunteers and possible volunteers among the laity of churches in this Mission Area
•To work with other members of the ministry team to bring a co-ordinated approach to this development across the MA, sharing of skills/expertise.
•To work with other Christian workers from both organisations and denominations, seeking opportunities for co-operation wherever appropriate
•To engage with the local secondary schools and Coleg Cambria (local agricultural College) looking for opportunities to establish Chaplaincy work.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Building strong contacts with laity, the clergy team and leaders of other churches within the MA, gaining trust and understanding – this to be done in co-operation with the ministry area leadership team
2. Identifying, inspiring and encouraging volunteers (especially laity) through training, networking and teamwork to enable them to become effective leaders
3. Working with these volunteers to explore appropriate areas of mission/ministry in each area and supporting them in establishing these (without remaining a permanent part of the local team)
4. Being a catalyst among local churches and key agencies to facilitate co-operation and collaboration in strategic local ministry
5. The facilitation, promotion and delivery of high quality activities by establishing and developing partnerships across the MA
6. With the support of the Under 25s Officer, identifying, inspiring and encouraging emerging young leaders, facilitating developmental opportunities, mentoring, and involvement in national initiatives
7. Contributing to the wider Diocesan strategy for mission among children, youth & families through co-working with other members of the MA, diocese and local authority agencies
8. Working flexibly in terms of both time (days, evenings and weekends) and place across the MA
9. To lead worship and administer Sacraments across the MA where and when required.

Development of Role
To obtain on-going training and personal development, through mentoring, feedback and regular development team training days, as well as appropriate courses.
Objective Setting and Reporting
• Yearly objectives will be agreed and monitored regularly
• Individual appraisal annually with line manager, with an additional review at the end of the first year’s probationary period
