POSITION SUMMARY
The Living Donor Kidney Program Manager is a leader responsible for program oversight and development of the UW Transplant Living Donor Kidney Program. This position is truly one of a program builder, who will build on the excitement and excellence of the program currently in place. The program manager is responsible for education, quality improvement, and outreach activities related to the UW Transplant Living Donor Kidney Program. S/he integrates his/her area of responsibility within the institution in support of the mission, goals, and objectives of UW Health. S/he utilizes problem solving techniques, process improvement and team development to ensure quality services, patient care, and a seamless patient and family experience. The program manager demonstrates a high level of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership skills. In collaboration with medical and surgical leadership, s/he establishes goals and strategies for the UW Transplant Living Donor Program. A summary of responsibilities includes:
· Establishing goals and operating objectives for the UW Transplant Living Donor Kidney Program
· Ensure effective coordination of services at the transplant clinic, outreach clinics and during the inpatient/outpatient continuum of care for living donors
· Program building, based on a culture of patient and family centered care, focused on the living donor experience
· Ensure regulatory compliance and survey readiness for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) and the Joint Commission (TJC) related to living donation
· Assure that the UW Transplant Living Donor Kidney Program maintains relationships and establishes new relationships with agencies such as dialysis centers and community physicians
· Facilitate and oversee quality improvement projects related to the living donor kidney program
· Increase access to kidney transplantation through the expansion of paired kidney exchanges
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Management
· Ensure achievement of goals and objectives of the UW Transplant Living Donor Kidney Program through ongoing coordination with physicians, other departments, and staff
· Prepare, develop, and modify policies and procedures necessary for the successful operation of living donation to ensure excellent patient outcomes
· Act independently with significant decision making based upon understanding of established policies and procedures
· Provide ongoing leadership and development of living donor kidney staff
· Work collaboratively with service line leaders to advance the UW Health and Service Line Strategic Plan
· Ensure regulatory readiness related to living donation at all times
· Provide ongoing evaluation and assessment of workflows to promote efficiency, productivity and patient and family centered care
· Active lead and participant in quality improvement initiatives for the living donor kidney program
· Coordinates and participates in the recruitment and hiring process for new staff.
· Insures and participates in the training and orientation of new Living Donor Program staff.
· Supervises Living Donor Program staff including assigning work, discipline and scheduling.
· Researches and implements professional development activities for program staff.
· Coordinate and approve vacation and sick leave requests and communicating such absences as appropriate.
· Perform and complete annual performance evaluations and goal setting for direct reports.
Program Planning and Development
· Facilitate innovative opportunities for programmatic growth through targeted outreach and marketing to increase knowledge about the importance of living kidney donation and criteria for being a kidney donor.
· Highly involved in the growth and logistics of paired kidney exchange, including collaborative efforts with other institutions
· In collaboration with physician leaders, utilize evidence-based knowledge to develop appropriate clinical protocols and guidelines related to living donor care
· Possess expert clinical knowledge in the field of living kidney donation and identify innovations through regional and national networking
· Helps facilitate/streamline the donor experience with consideration of the gift they are giving (donor celebration)
· Lead investigation of events related to living donation such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints, and situations that affect the safe and timely delivery of patient centered care
· Monitor Living Kidney Donor Scorecard and develop robust quality assessment program for living donors
Professional Development
· Participates and leads continuing education and professional development activities within the department
· Promotes, facilitates, and educates team members on new practice changes, regulatory requirements, and organizational practices changes in a timely manner.
· Demonstrates spirit of inquiry and consistently seeks new knowledge of clinical practice and evidenced based guidelines in the field of transplantation and nursing discipline
· Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and is a resource in the department
· Manages difficult situations using advanced problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
· Participates in professional organizations in the area of transplantation and nursing; participates in local, regional and national conferences on organ transplantation. Disseminates information learned to colleagues.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education /
Minimum
/ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, healthcare, industrial engineering, quality improvement, systems management, nursing or equivalent. If applicant is a nurse, must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing.Preferred
/ Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, healthcare quality, systems management, healthcare related field, or equivalent.Work Experience /
Minimum
/ Three (3) years of program development, healthcare clinical or analytical experience.Preferred
/5+ years of program development experience
Experience working with Transplant or Organ Procurement Organization.Licenses & Certifications
/Minimum
/ If candidate is a nurse, must be a Registered Nurse with an active WI license.Preferred
