Job Title: / Business Development Officer
NJC Scale Point: / NJC Pt 27-28, depending on experience

Hours:

/ 37.5 hours per week and such additional hours as are required by the business from time to time.
Annual Leave: / 26 days plus statutory and bank holidays (1 additional day after each year of service, up to a maximum of 31 days).
Location: / Southgate Street, Bath and any other location reasonably requested by the organisation.
Pension: / Contributory pension scheme (employer’s contribution 7% to a minimum 3% contribution from employee).
Accountable to: / Income Generation Manager

Principle Purpose of the Job

The Business Development Officer

·  support and in some instances be responsible for the development of tenders, bids and funding applications by working closely with relevant members of the Executive team and others from early stage research through to the submission of funding applications.

·  support project leaders and finance colleagues to ensure contracts and grants are set up, managed and monitored in accordance with funder requirements. This includes working with the Reporting Officer to ensure to ensure contractual reporting is completed on time and as accurately as possible.

·  Maintain the organisation’s data and information sources to ensure a ‘state of preparedness’ for tenders, bids and funding applications.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Identify and potential funding opportunities by undertaking research and obtaining local knowledge (e.g. through the internet, working with Service Managers, and external contacts)

2.  Prepare a pipeline of proposals to ensure opportunities for funding are planned for appropriately and not missed.

3.  Develop and maintain a centralised bank of tender information, including an evidence base for all services including illustrative/indicative case stories and local needs/ priorities.

4.  Working across the organisation, coordinate bid writing teams and bid writing processes to ensure timely delivery of applications to deadlines.

5.  Ensure that funding applications are drafted to a high quality. This includes peer reviewing draft PQQ/ITT responses, formatting, creating charts/diagrams for visual impact and cutting-down responses creatively.

6.  To liaise with external individuals and organisations, as appropriate, to build DHI’s learning about key stakeholders.

7.  Support the development of presentations and collate presentation packs for use outside the organisation.

8.  Assist the Reporting Officer to ensure to ensure contractual reporting is completed on time and as accurately as possible. Provide cover in his/her absence.

9.  To ensure the project information database / team reports are accessed and updated as per agreed guidelines.

10.  To manage the work of volunteers.

5.  To perform as part of the Corporate Services and wider DHI team, attending and participating in regular meetings, appropriate training courses and in skills sharing sessions.

6.  To participate in regular supervision and support.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Skills

1.  Experience of preparing funding applications or with transferable experience in research and drafting.

2.  Excellent research skills and /tender/grant writing application skills.

3.  Methodical approach with a high level of attention to detail.

4.  Experience of and/or knowledge of the social care and/or health sector and awareness of demands of working within services

5.  Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.

6.  Excellent IT skills.

7.  Strong organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate work undertaken in a team setting.

8.  Effective project and time management skills and the ability to keep calm under tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.

9.  Ability to be flexible and able to react and respond effectively to unplanned demands.

10.  An understanding of and belief in social justice and promotion of social inclusion.

11.  Demonstrate initiative, diplomacy, patience, flexibility and open-mindedness.

Desirable Skills

1.  Knowledge of services for the socially excluded, particularly those who have drugs/alcohol and housing problems.
