Qualifications
Grade 12 or Equivalent / Effective written and verbal communication / Current CPRValid driver’s licences class 1, 2 or 4 / Able to work independently / Physically able to perform assigned duties
Program of 6 months or more in human services or social sciences / Demonstrates ability to organize / Demonstrates good attendance and work record
Experience in geriatrics, disabled or other health related fields / Able to work effectively in team environment / Knowledge and comfort with computers.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES:
- Maintain good interpersonal relationships with residents, families and other member of the general care team and utilizes these skills in work with residents, families, volunteers, visitors and other staff.
- Maintains resident confidentiality and respects the residents’ right to privacy.
- Provides a safe environment for residents.While respecting their individual independence and autonomy.
RESIDENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contributes to the residents care plan through the performance of activities and programs,to enhance the quality of life for each resident.
- Assessment
- Conducts interviews with resident/family/trustee to develop a social history and identify activation needs.
- Observes and documents residents participation in programs and reports changes in the residents condition to the RN.
- Planning
- In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team sets activation goals and objectives for residents.
- Develops programs based on individual needs for both mental and physical stimulation.
- Promotes activities, programs and prescribed exercises such as fitness, recreation/play, individual or group to residents.
- Organizes both individual and group programs to make best use of time.
- Organizes and coordinates involvement of community groups and agencies such as volunteers, spiritual groups, service clubs, children’s organizations and senior groups.
- Stocks and keeps inventory of items needed for activities.
- Explores and researches opportunities for patients to participate in community events, participates in special activities with residents such as shopping, drives on the bus etc.
- Organizes and coordinates the Volunteer program.
- Implementation
- Co-ordinates the implementation of activities utilizing volunteer/family/trustees.
- Delegates to and supervises volunteers. - ensures activities fosterindependence, dignity, safety comfort.
- Documents activities involvement according to established guidelines.
- Provides leadership, guidance, direction and assistance to volunteers.
- Evaluation
- Assesses activation programs delivered on both a group and individual basis to ensure positive outcomes.
- Assesses the volunteers program on a regular basis to ensure positive outcome.
- Health & Safety
- Is aware of, understands and complies with the New Brunswick Health and Safety Act, the regulations and any order made in accordance with this act or regulations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the facilities current emergency plans.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current health and safety policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the U-First Program.
- Practices good body mechanics.
- Reports unsafe practices and conditions to the employer.
