JOB CLASSIFICATION: DISTRIBUTION DESIGNER I1
- JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Distribution Designer Ireports to the Supervisor, Distribution Designand works with design personnel and other departments as directed. The Distribution Designer I is primarily responsible for assisting in the economic design and staking of overhead and underground distribution feeders and secondary services to individual customers by clearing brush, driving stakes, heading chains, and drawing staking sheets under the supervision of the Distribution Designer Coordinator. - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Distribution Designer I is responsible for the following functions, including but not limited to:
- Assists in designing and staking major projects and system improvements.
- Heads the chain and drives stakes in the field design process.
- Clears right-of-ways when needed.
- Learns to draw staking sheets under the general supervision of his immediate supervisor.
- Becomes familiar in the use of Trico’s automated staking software and computer aided drafting (CAD) software for the purpose of design drawings.
- Learns to size transformers for residential line extensions or services.
- Maintains good Member relations to mitigate, track, and solve customer requests, problems or complaints.
- Learns how to determine cost estimates for customer designs.
- Learns to provide technical assistance related to customer questions and/or complaints.
- Executes work according to good engineering practices and Trico standards:
- Learns how to size transformers for services to industrial loads.
- Learns Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications and construction units.
- Becomes familiar with mechanical design and calculations.
- Keeps informed on latest techniques and devices for improved system performance.
III.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Distribution Designer I must have the following minimum qualifications:
- High School degree plus one year of related courses such as design, surveying, mapping.
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in drafting, surveying, electric distribution designing, mapping and related fields.
- Knowledge of drafting and trigonometry.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to work irregular and/or overtime hours as duties may require.
IV.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed primarily outdoors and the individual will experience the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter. The position requires the ability to move, lift and carry various types of survey equipment. The environment may be dusty and dirty around construction sites.
The job requires the ability to stand or walk for long periods of time up to 60% of the time. The job also involves 30% bending, squatting, crouching kneeling, pushing/pulling, and reaching.
The individual must be able to reach overhead, climb ladders, lift in awkward positions, and move consistently on his/her feet 30% of the time.Frequently the position requires lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds from a floor to waist to overhead level, and occasionally lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds from the floor or waist level overhead. The position requires extensive fine finger dexterity, including simple and firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive movements using both hands.
