Law-Related Education (federal)

This program supports a variety of activities and meetings for teachers, students and other legal and social services personnel to facilitate broader use of law-related methods, materials, programs and strategies.
Civics, First, Inc.
Law-Related Education
$60,000 / Supports planning and delivery of activities, trainings and meetings for teachers and students to facilitate a broader use of law-related methods and materials including regional conferences for students, middle and high school debates, mock trial program, and training for teachers.

Title V Delinquency Prevention Program (federal)

This program is designed to provide a dedicated fund source for states to award federal grants to units of general local government for delinquency prevention and early intervention projects. It provides up to two-thirds of the funding for up to two years (October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2013) to implement a local delinquency prevention plan based upon an assessment of risk and protective factors associated with the development of delinquent behavior in the community’s children.

Ansonia Embracing the Future
$84,215.50 / There are four components to this program, which serves middle and high school youth: 1) Increasing job training, job shadowing and employment; 2) Establishing a Families and Schools Together program; 3) Expanding diversion programs; and 4) Improving communication.
City of New Britain
Graduation Odyssey (GO)
Delinquency Prevention
Program, $84,215.50 / The GO program will provide students in the middle school with comprehensive out of school time programming. Additionally, it can afford opportunities for parents to learn how to better prepare their children for improved success in school, career and the community.
NeighborhoodYouthCenter Boys & Girls Clubs Program (state)
The purpose of this program is to continue to provide and expand safe haven programming for the youth of Connecticut through the addition of staff, services and innovative programming at the 16 Boys & Girls Clubs across Connecticut. This program requires a 100% cash match and will operate from May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.
ConnecticutAlliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, Inc.
BGCA Safe Haven Programming, $810,555 / Funds will be used to support the substance abuse resistance program called SMART MOVES and will continue 33 outreach-based, innovative safe haven programs. These programs will serve 4,000 “at risk” youth in Connecticut.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Bridgeport, Inc.
Neighborhood Youth Center Safe Haven, $81,056 / The Jerome Orcutt unit will provideopportunities for area youth to participate in core life-saving programs including athletics, homework help, academic achievement, mentoring, character development, life skills, job readiness and the arts.
NeighborhoodYouthCenterState Grant Program(state)
The Neighborhood Youth Center State Grant Program will support specific local initiatives to increase positive experiences for youth ages 12 through 18 years in high need neighborhoods. This program requires a 50% match and will operate from May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012.
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Hartford
Strengthening New Haven’s Teens, $54,037 / Centro San Jose’s youth programming will serve youth from Fair Haven with a Positive Youth Development approach, which focuses on academic enrichment, case management and transition support delivered in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
Central Connecticut Coast YMCA
Dwight Neighborhood Program, $54,037 / The New Haven YMCA Youth Center will provide a safe, appropriate place for youth in the Dwight neighborhood. The program will provide support and a variety of opportunities for youth using the Positive Youth Development framework.
Housing Authority of the City of Bridgeport, Trumbull Gardens Multi-Purpose Center, $70,518 / Funding will support a variety of educational, recreational and cultural programs for youth at the Trumbull Gardens Multi-Purpose Center. Activities are designed to increase student achievement and to provide a safe place for youth to develop leadership skills.
Valley Shore YMCA
Summer of Service
$40,528 / The Summer of Service is a unique program that will identify and develop leadership skills in 50-75 teens by engaging them in service learning projects. Projects will vary from environmental to community outreach to technology and will also prepare youth for employment.
Rivera Memorial Foundation Inc., After School & Summer Enrichment, $20,264 / The program will serve 75 at risk children in the City of Waterbury through after school and summer enrichment activities
St. Margaret Willow Plaza NRZ Association, Inc.
Best Foot Forward
$20,264 / This is a 3-day a week program for 25 youth with monthly and quarterly incentives. Tutoring, enrichment, guest speakers, sports & recreation, drug & violence prevention, community service, field trips and more will be provided based on youth input.
