Biography:

Jennie first learned about the field of occupational therapy after her mother sustained a serious hand injury. She witnessed firsthand the profound impact of occupational therapy on her mother’s overall well being, and how her occupational therapist helped her navigate the road to recovery. Jennie received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and continued her studies at Chicago State University, where she earned her Master of Occupational Therapy. During her graduate studies, Jennie discovered her love for working with children. She helped implement a health promotion and wellness program for children and their families in an underserved Chicago community, and also volunteered at a summer camp for children with developmental disabilities. Additionally, her fieldwork experiences gave her the opportunity to work with children with a wide variety of diagnoses including sensory processing disorders, brachial plexus injuries, learning disabilities, neurological illnesses, and feeding difficulties. Jennie values the development of a therapeutic relationship between therapists and families to promote a child’s growth and development. In her free time, Jennie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, exercising, discovering new restaurants, and baking.

Victoria has always known she wanted a career that involved working with and helping people. She discovered the world of speech-language pathology during her undergraduate introduction course to speech and language disorders and she instantly knew that she wanted to pursue it as her career. Victoria began her clinical experience at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Center for Communication Sciences and Disorder clinic. After graduation, she pursued her master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Victoria completed her off-campus experience at St. Michael’s hospital where she diagnosed and treated patients with aphasias, cognitive disorders, traumatic brain injuries, and swallowing disorders. While in graduate school, Victoria traveled to Curitiba, Brazil in a study abroad trip to participate in the Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Disorders Seminar at The Center for Cleft Lip and Palate Care (CAIF). She hopes to become more involved with international programs supporting children with speech and language disorders. Victoria completed her externship at McAuliffe Elementary School in Green Bay, Wisconsin where she diagnosed and treated students with speech and language disorders. After obtaining her master’s degree, Victoria found her passion working in the Early Intervention setting with young children while she completed her clinical fellowship in Chicago. Victoria enjoys collaborating with a child’s team members and family in order to provide the most effective therapy, which is why she is thrilled to have joined the Eyas Landing team. Giving parents the knowledge and power to make a difference in their child’s lives is very rewarding to Victoria. She appreciates the challenge of creating personalized therapy for children to cater to their unique speech and language needs. She feels rewarded by witnessing children’s “ah-ha” moments when they discover they can communicate successfully. Victoria embraces learning so much from her co-workers, clients’ families, and clients each day. Outside of work, Victoria enjoys exploring Chicago, reading, riding bike, playing volleyball, and spending time with her family and friends.

Bio:

Erin Potterton is excited to be a member of the Eyas Landing team! Erin has a Masters degree in Urban and Multicultural Education and a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York. Erin began her career as an Elementary Classroom Teacher in the New York City Public School system. Erin then went on to teach in Cairo, Egypt, then in Stockholm, Sweden. Most recently, she has worked as a Parent Educator, providing guidance, advocacy, and support to teen mothers with mental illnesses in the city of Chicago. These experiences have afforded Erin the opportunity to learn about teaching and engaging students and families from many different backgrounds and cultures. In her free time, Erin enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and taking her dog to the beach. She also spends time working with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and a nonprofit that builds desks for school children in Uganda. Erin is passionate about working with children and families of diverse backgrounds and nurturing the whole child and family system.

Bio:

Melody first became interested in occupational therapy while caring for her mother. After seeing the affects and great functional progress her mother made in subacute rehab, Melody began to dive deeper in the world of occupational therapy. She began to discover her passion for working with pediatrics while working with a child diagnosed with Autism at a summer camp. She observed the impact of sensory play on physical, social and emotional development and began pursuing education in occupational therapy. She received her bachelors of science in Psychology at Rockford University and her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Melody began her career in a community hospital and pediatric clinic working with a variety of children with developmental and neurological diagnoses. Melody joined the Eyas Landing team in 2014 and has received advanced training in sensory processing and interactive metronome. Melody believes that a safe sensory rich environment can improve a child’s self actualization and aid in successfully becoming independent in their world. In her free time, Melody enjoys fitness, being outdoors and spending time with friends and family.

Chris Meyer

Chris joined the Eyas Landing team in March of this year. Chris has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and has a background in experimental design, data collection, and data management. As an undergrad, he took various courses in psychology and early childhood education. Before joining the Eyas Landing Team, Chris worked for both the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service, where he worked onlong-term habitat restoration projects and led volunteer groups. He is passionate about science, and likes to spend most of his spare time outside, exploring, or learning.
