II.  Welcome to new members and/or guests

III.  Relay For Life Student Presentation: Students Jacob Fanness and Lukas Clevenger thanked the academy for its support of this year’s Relay For Life event at JHS. The JHS Relay team will be helping on the June 17 Winnebago event by managing the luminaria ceremony. Consider following their progress on Facebook @ JHSRelayFor Life. On this site they also post cancer facts for awareness and education.

*** Request: Over the summer the JHS team will meet to plan next school year’s event. They are seeking mentors to come to these meetings to advise on planning. Last summer the meetings were every other Friday. The team will determine the dates and times soon, and these will be sent to all AST members for their consideration.

IV.  Approval of or Adjustments to Agenda: Approved as written

V.  Follow-Up on Previous Items

A. Update on Fitness Trail: No news on Ford grant as yet. Results will be sent when known

B. CCRC Liaison: Thank you, Rachel Van Den Broek, for agreeing to be the CCRC liaison.

V. Teacher Reports and Requests (Outcome: Requests met or referred to CCRC):

Brett Carlson: Friday, May 13, the HS Academy will have a field day after school from 3:45-5:00 with “minute-to-win-it” type games and ices. Today is the last day for the popcorn fundraiser.

Allyson Utech: May 18 is Pass The Torch, a ceremony in which freshmen are “passed” from the Freshman Academy to their newly selected career academy.

VI. Action Items

A. Election/reaffirmation of officers: Kathy Olson is willing to remain as Chair, but is also willing to cede the post to someone who would like it. Let her know if you are willing. Elections will be held in the first meeting of the new school year.

B. Determination of next year’s meeting day, time and frequency: Continue meeting the 1st Thursday every other month beginning in September at 4 p.m. Judy will send an Outlook invitation for the whole year. Consider meeting occasionally during HS student lunch time next year so as to get more student input on what they would like in the academy (to be discussed further in September).

D. NSOP 6 -8: NSOP 6: Need student and parent participation; perhaps AST members can come into HS classes to discuss the merit of serving on the AST and/or Student Advisory Board; invite academy ambassadors to serve on the AST; consider an application with recommendations like National Honor Society; send to AST members the results of the survey completed by students after the “Adulting 101” program.

Questions needing answers from the National Career Academy Coalition:

1. How is a “community representative” different from a supporting employer? Can an AST member represent multiple roles?

2. Are By-Laws at the CCRC level sufficient for governance?

NSOP 8 will be on the September agenda.

V. Data Report: None given

IX. Adjournment: 5:05 p.m.
