JAZZ BAND AUDITIONS
The Holland Jazz Band is a select ensemble of talented student musicians. Students are chosen by audition to participate in Jazz Band. The group rehearses Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning promptly at 7:15 AM. Please do not audition unless you are willing to make this commitment for the year!
Students may choose to come for their audition on Thursday 10/19 either after school from 3:00 – 5:00 or before school at 7:00 am. Audition results will be announced on Friday the 20th. Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday 10/24 for all members at 7:15. Students are encouraged to work with private teachers on the music for their audition and may also make arrangements to work with me during R/A period on Tuesday or Thursday mornings starting this week.
The audition will be from a section of “Sesame Street Theme” which is one of the pieces we will be playing this year. If you are unable to play the piece up to speed (1/4 note = 132), it is preferred that you play it accurately at a steady slower tempo without stopping than to try to attempt this too fast and make many mistakes. In other words play it at your best speed for success. Dynamics and accents are also very important and will add to the overall musicality of your performance. You will only be required to play starting from the Coda to the end for the audition.
To hear a recording of the audition piece, go to the Holland Middle School web site and click on Band under the Activities tab at the top and then click on Jazz Band Information. Or go to the link here:

The Coda section starts at about 2:30 on the YouTube recording.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding Jazz Band or the audition process.
GOOD LUCK!
