Off-Campus Instrumental Lesson Policies

We do everything possible to provide high-quality instruction for all instrumentalists. However, if there is not a qualified faculty instructor available for your instrument, we will work with you to find one off-campus. You have the option to locate your own teacher or work with us to find a suitable instructor. It is preferable that you locate an instructor with a master’s degree or commensurate experience.

In the case of these

1. Each student is expected to accumulate 650 instructional minutes per semester.

2. You will be responsible to pay the instructor directly for the cost of lessons. The seminary will subsidize the cost of lessons at the rate of $150 per credit hour of study. Payment from us is made to the teacher in two equal installments, half at the beginning of the semester and half at the end. The student is responsible for paying the difference directly to the teacher in whatever manner they decide. If your teacher has any problems collecting funds, you will either receive a failing grade or an “incomplete” until appropriate funds are paid.

3. All students taking lessons to fulfill degree requirements will be required to play a jury. We will extend an invitation for your teacher to attend your jury at the end of the semester. If they are unable to attend, we will contact them by phone to gather information for lesson assessment. Your jury will be managed by Dr. Hardin and whomever else he may choose.

4. All payroll information and funds disbursement is handled through the office of the Dean's Administrative Assistant, Fran DeWysockie (). If you choose an instructor on your own, please contact Dr. Hardin for approval and make sure both he and Fran DeWysockie have your teacher’s name and contact information.

5. If this lesson is to fulfill requirements for your degree, you may qualify for a refund of applied lesson fees. Send a letter or email to Dr. Hardin or Fran DeWysockie and request to have these funds credited back to your account.
