JAPN 1401 Chapter 9 Podcasting assignment

2/29 (Fri) 9:00-9:50 in FLL Tech Center, Clements Hall 234

Your mission: You can work as a pair or group of three. (Not four or more.) You and your partner(s) will create a dialog talking about your rooms and publish as podcast. Everybody needs to participate equally.

You and your partner(s) will find common interest and try to find a good time to get together. You all decide to go eat at a restaurant. After that, you will plan more acitivies. It could be studying for homework, playing sports, going to a concert, or going to movies or whatever you like. Line up a couple or more activities if you can. Come up with as much detail as possible. At the end, one of you will read a summary of what happened in Japanese.

You make a recording using Audacity in .mp3 file. Then upload to SMU Japanese Program podcasting site by the end of the class time. (2/29 Friday, 9:50am, Central Standard time) . Alternatively if you have technical difficulties, you may send it to sensei to , but it also has to be by the end of the class time.

The work will be graded as assignment. It will be graded on content, accuracy, length, and use of new grammar.

Note: My recording is about 100 seconds. You don’t need to make a very long one. You just have to cover all the points below.

Upload the audio file to podcasting site

4.Browse the .mp3 file you created and description with names of the partners (e.g. Chlapecka and Lee)

How to use Audacity to record your program.

You may have to stop and switch who is talking using the microphone. Save often. Edit if necessary.

How to Record Audio on a PC using Audacity:

To record audio on a PC, open the AUDACITY program (Go to StartProgramsAudacity).

Before recording, make sure you have a microphone attached to your computer, into which you will talk; and headphones to hear your recorded voice.

Once all is ready and the AUDACITY program is running, perform the following to record your assignment:

Record Button: The red circle button. Use this to record your voice.

Stop Button: Yellow square button. Use this to stop recording.

Play Button: Green triangular button. Use this button to hear what you have recorded.

To re-do a recording and cancel the previously recorded version, use the ‘X” icon (located on the left of the recorded voice) to close and restart from the beginning.

Go to File menu and select EXPORT as mp3

As window will pop up and will prompt you to save your voice file. Type the name of the file (for example: yourname.mp3- be sure not to forget the .mp3 at the end of the filename) and save in the My Documents directory.

After saving the file, a window may pop up asking you to locate the file lame_inc.dll. To locate it, browse to C: Program Files- lame-lame_enc.dll.

Click OPEN.

Once located, a window may pop up saying “Edit the ID3 tags for the mp3 file.”

Click OK.

Your file will be exported as an .mp3 to the director where you saved it.

Close the document. You do not need to save it.

How to Record Audio on a MAC using Audacity:

To record audio on a MAC, open the AUDACITY program (Go to FinderApplicationsAudacity 1.3.2-beta Audacity).
