First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Festival of Lessons and Carols November 29, 2015
Historical Note
The Festival of Lessons and Carols used today is a shortened version of the famous Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge each Christmas Eve since 1918. The original service was adapted, in turn, from an order of worship devised in 1880 by Bishop E. W. Benson, later Archbishop of Canterbury. Since 1928, the King’s College festival has been broadcast and can be heard live on Christmas Eve via the BBC and National Public Radio.

People:He will not cry or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street;
Leader:a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench;

Our Father, who art in Heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
