2SYSTEM DESCRIPTION FOR THERMALLY INSULATED STEEL WINDOWS
2.1Profile system: Basic construction / fixed lights
Thermally insulated profile system manufactured from thermally broken Janisol Arte – steel profiles. Profile system consisting of two steel half-shells and an insulating bar made of glass fibre reinforced polymer material, which fit together by form-fit and spring-actuated connections. The steel profiles are available in uncoated finish (St. 1.0037/S235 JR) or in hot-dipped galvanized finish (S250GD Z275), coating thickness approx. 20 µm.
Construction height of profiles for fixed lights and window sashes = 60 mm, insulation spacing between the half-shells is at least 25 mm. Frame width of the profiles for frames, mullions and transoms = 10 mm, lip or profile stop width = 15 mm.
The elements are of welded construction. The visible welds are to be ground flat and polished. The insulation bars must be able to withstand the short-term increased temperatures caused by welding without melting or burning.
The thermally insulated profiles must be tested in accordance with EN 14024 and their adequate structural stability ensured. The profiles must behave in the same way as non-insulated profiles with the same effective moment of inertia under the same anticipated applied loads (SIA 160, DIN 1055, etc.). The shear forces arising between the inner and outer shells must be reliably transferred by the bond between them. The structural engineering verification is to be performed by the contractor.
An enamelling temperature (thermal load) of up to 180° C is to be guaranteed for an optimal surface treatment of the profile system (stove enamel finish or powder coating).
The required thermal insulation values Uf (frame) of the various profile combinations are to be calculated in accordance with EN ISO 10077- 2. The Uf values must be verified by tests at a recognised testing institute.
The following Uf
values are required for the fixed lights:
Frames: Uf = 1.9 W/m2K / Uf = 2.2 W/m2K / Uf = 2.5 W/m2K
Mullions, transoms, stay bars: Uf = 2.2 W/m2K
(For selection of profiles and detailed information about Uf values, see Janisol Arte documentation)
The aluminium glazing beads are cut at right angles and invisibly fastened by preinstalled clips.
Variants:
- The glazing beads made from steel tubes 15 x 15 x 1.5 mm are cut at right angles and fastened at intervals of approx. 250 mm by screws.
- The glazing beads made from steel angle profiles 15 x 15 x 3 mm are cut at right angles and fastened at intervals of approx. 250 mm by screws.
Additional information and advice about construction, fabrication and assembly can be taken from the system manufacturer's documentation.
Profile widths:
Frames: 25 mm / 40 mm
Mullions / vertical stay bars:40 mm
Transoms / horizontal stay bars:40 mm
2.1Profile system: Window leaf construction
Window system made from thermally broken Janisol Arte – steel profiles for side-hung, bottom-hung, tilt-and-turn, top-hung and projected top-hung
sashes inward- and outward-opening. Construction height window sash profiles = 60 mm, frame width = 10 mm, profile stop or profile lip width = 15 mm.
The window sashes are fitted with an exterior and interior continuous rebate seal. A continuous aluminium additional profile is inserted into the frame and sash to form the seal recess and is fixed in place with special screws. Inserted in the lower rebate area of the sash (antechamber) is a plastic drainage profile, which is similarly fixed in place with special screws and sealed with a self-adhesive strip. The antechamber is drained by means of drainage pipes made of zinc diecasting. Inward-opening sashes should generally be fitted with external weather bars held in place by concealed fastenings and terminated with plastic end pieces.
For side-hung, bottom-hung, tilt-and-turn, top-hung and projected top-hung
sashes, use fittings system-compatible and tested by the manufacturer only.
The following Uf values are required for the sashes in accordance with EN ISO 10077-2:
Frames and sashes: Uf = 2.4 W/m2K / Uf = 2.5 W/m2K / Uf = 2.7 W/m2K / Uf = 2.8 W/m2K
Mullions or transoms: Uf = 2.6 W/m2K / Uf = 2.7 W/m2K
Non-end tilt-and-turn sashes: Uf = 3.1 W/m2K
(For selection of profile combinations and detailed information about Uf values, see Janisol Arte documentation)

4INSTALLING INFILL PANELS
4.1Glazing with plastic sealing compound (sealing)
Glazing and panel installation is carried out using interior and exterior sealing.
The glazing and sealing work are to be carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the "Institut desGlazinghandwerks für Verglasungstechnikund Fensterbau" (Instituteof Glazing Craftsmen for Glazing andWindow Technology), Hadamar,Germany.
High quality, permanently elastic sealing compounds that must be able to accommodate the anticipated movements permanently are to be used for the seals.
The specific guidelines of the glass manufacturer are to be followed for double glazing and special glazing. Before the award of contract, the contractor is obliged to agree the type and construction of double glazing elements and the details of the installation of the glass with the double glazing manufacturer and glazing company.
The glazing, the glass and panel installation, as well as all the fittings required for them such as spacer bars, glazing bridges, seals etc. are to be included in the unit rate price.
