Dear Parents,
Jamestown Public Schools offers a variety of athletic opportunities for all fifth grade students. We would encourage your son or daughter to participate in any or all the activities. Typically, participants who attend Gussner, Lincoln, Washington, and Hillcrest will practice at Gussner. Participants who attend Roosevelt, Louis L’Amour and St. John’s will practice at Roosevelt. All games will be played at Gussner starting at 3:30pm. All participants can use district bussing to designated schools. We want to inform you of the schedules and expectations of the Elementary Athletics Program.
The schedules for the activities will be sent out two weeks prior to the start of season, The schedules will include practice days and game days. Practice and games for all elementary athletic activities are held Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. There are no elementary athletic activities held on Wednesdays. Practice is held from 3:20-4:20 if held in an elementary school setting. Gymnastics and Swimming are held off site and will run from 3:30-4:45pm. The games involve intramural play with all participants. Each participant is responsible to find a ride after games or practices.
Winning is not a priority of the Elementary Athletics Program. The goal of our program is to have students: [1]. participate [2]. learn fundamentals and [3] learn, practice & utilize good sportsmanship. An enjoyment of participation and exposure to the benefits of physical fitness are also stressed through the Elementary Athletics Program. Coaches are told to rotate players into the game on an equal basis. This will be done based upon the number of players they have on each team.
There is a participation fee of $25.00 for each elementary athletic activity. Families qualifying for free or reduced meal can contact the school for a reduction in fee. That fee should be paid at the elementary school office. According to district policy, there is a $75 cap per child, $300 district cap per family, including all music and athletic activities.
**For each sport, you will be expected to complete a participation/consent slip and return it to the office.
I hope that your child's experience, and yours, with elementary athletics is a positive and productive one.
