James Graham III (1700 – 1783)

James Graham III was born circa 1700. He settled Brandywine in 1725 (now Honey Brook) Chester County. James married Mary Miller. James III died November 30th 1783 in Chester County Pennsylvania, and was laid to rest in the Pequea Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Jarrett Graham I

Jarrett Graham I was born circa 1700 in Northern Ireland. He fled Scotland with his father to Ireland and then to America early 1700’s. Jarrett received land from William Penn’s sons, and settled Chester County (present day Salisbury Township Lancaster County PA)

Jarrett married Susannah, who died circa February 13th 1772. Jarrett died circa 1772 in Chester Delaware County Pennsylvania. His will was proved April 24th 1772. Jarrett and Susanna may have had other children besides the following.

“…The earliest documentary evidence now in possession of his great-great-grandchildren of the settlement of their great-great-grandfather in Lancaster County is a deed from Thomas and Richard Penn, dated the 13th of March, 1734, to Jared Graham, of Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, for a tract of land in the Manor of Maska, in what is now West Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County. However, Jared Graham never resided on this purchase. He remained in Lancaster County until his death. But soon after its purchase, his son James, removed from Salisbury township to this land and built his log cabin on the banks of the beautiful Conodoguinet, about thirty miles west from the Susquehanna…” [3]

(There is also a Salisbury Township in Wicomico County, Maryland…Which borders Salisbury Lancaster County PA)

“…This property, then deep in the backwoods, was subsequently conveyed to him, and was his home and the home of his descendants through several generations. In those days clearings and neighbors were few and far between and to provide a refuge against the hostile Indians the settlers built a fort on a high limestone bluff within a few hundred rods of James Graham's dwelling. The place of this pioneer home is yet well known, but time has wrought a complete transformation in the locality. Instead of the dense primitive forest there are now to be seen only is, dated clumps and fringes of trees; the echo of the Redman's war whoop died out more than a hundred and thirty years ago, and only notes of peace fall upon the traveler's ear the log fort on the bluff gave way to a large stone mansion which in its turn has fallen into decay, and where once fled the hunted fugitive the husbandman unmolested now pursues his daily round of toil. The part on which stood the cabin built by James fell to Isaiah, the youngest of the three, and it was his home for a long time…” [4]
