WORK EXPERIENCE

12/2011 – PresentBusiness Consultant

I made the decision to move into an independent business consultant given the exposure I had over the years to very diverse businesses andindustries coupled with my strong analytical skills and entrepreneurial forward thinking in business start-ups and in identifying business opportunities and solutions. I am currently consulting for two companies, the first requires full review of resources and organization structure that in its current set up is hindering the business from growing, the second is to help a new start-up offering niche product to ensure they have the right positioning in the market and to plan a structured growth into a future geographical expansion.

This was surely a daring career move but no doubt rewarding given the expertise I can bring combined with the ability and capability into resolving and improving business situations.

12/2008 – 11/2011CEO, Dar Al Dawa Pharmaceuticals – Jordan

Dar Al Dawa is the second largest pharmaceutical company in Jordan established over 30 years ago and present in most of MENA countries and part of Europe. It is a fully integrated business including Research and Development, Manufacturing and Sales. The company was reaching a stagnant growth and loosing position in the market with no clear vision and strategy on how to develop for the future. I came in with the objective to turn around the business, to deliver a sustainable andsteady growth, to develop the long term vision for the company, and to move the company into a dominant regional position within the industry.

I had a very challenging start overcoming business and work environment obstacles and cultural barriers to accepting change. Right from the beginning I realized that the full operating model had to be revamped and a major restructuring must happen to revive the business. This covered all business aspects, some of the key areas included restructuring R&D to develop a pipeline of new product to build for the future, introducing the supply chain model to integrate Manufacturing, Procurement, Planning and Logistics to ensure a faster and cost effective operation and delivery, restructuring the Sales force and its relationship with Marketing to ensure we are indeed reaching our sales potential in the various markets, building the Business Development, HR and Legal functions which barely existed, and very importantlyrestructuring and stressing the accountability of the Finance department to introduce better budgeting, control of expenses, cost saving and financial analysis.

I created the Business Leadership team composing of the senior managers who I led through the restructuring and the focused delivery of the business results. I managed and completed an acquisition in Algeria that will in no doubt help the vertical growth of the company, this is in addition to introducing the Licensing business from international and renowned pharmaceutical companies to introduce new technologies and to speed up delivery into the market.

Being a very regulated industry, the business cycle from the onset of concept or product development to launching into the market takes a number of years, hence, the importance of strategic and long term planning.I have put in place destination objectives and a business glide path to develop via organic growth while in parallel exploring inorganic growth opportunities. This was very critical to set the organization passionately to seek reaching the vision.

No doubt my success comes from the expertise I have developed throughout my career and to add to it the diversity of the business functions that I have been exposed to.

09/2007 – 11/2008Regional Managing Director, Tameer Real Estate– UAE/Libya

I assumed the full responsibility to set up the Tameer business unit in Libya in a joint venture with the Libyan government and to lead and manage the entirety of a mutli-billion dollar real estate operation. My initial focus was on formalizing the joint venture and on registering the company which faced many difficulties given the complex and slow pace business environment in Libya and the immense details involved in the undertaken development which is almost 40 km2 in size. Within the one year I was with the company, I had the JV officially agreed by the investment board and registered, I was also in the process of setting up the organization and planning the phasing strategy of the development.

I additionally and successfully negotiated and agreed a high profile deal for the development of what is considered one of the most strategic sites in central Tripoli the capital of Libya. This has required very continuous and persistent negotiations with very senior officials to reach an agreement, but thankfully very rewarding. I initiated the master plan but unfortunately did not see it through to completion due to leaving the company.

Given my above success in negotiating high profile deals, I was chosen to identify similar opportunities in Yemen.I secured one major development and a second which was under discussion when I left.

08/2004 – 08/2007EDGO Group, Libya

06/2005 – 08/2007Edgo Group - General Manager, Camco Petroleum Services, Libya

I was appointed to this role in addition to my other responsibilities as General Manager of Sahara Development Group which is a sister company within the same group as is outlined below. While I had little experience in the oil and gas industry, however, my skills and expertise were seen by the group as very much needed given the business expansion and growth planned for the company. I relied on my team to deliver the technical excellence and I came in to develop the vision and strategy and to set up the required organization and business planning to lead the expansion.

I had a clear objective set by the board to grow the organization by at least 5 times by 2010. It was my role to identify market needs and the segments which would best compliment existing business and to initiate required steps to achieve target growth. I achieved 3 times growth by 2007 and had very clear glide path to achieve and exceed the set target with an expected growth of 7 times. This of course required restructuring the organization, improving internal procedures and systems to accommodate for the growth and the significant increase in human resources and capital assets, establishing very rigid safety and quality control processes to ensure first class services, building and maintaining strong relationship with the clients and engaging them into the anticipated growth plan, and of course creating a high energy motivated team and organization that was willing to stretch in every way to accept the challenge and to collectively contribute to the growth.

Given the success I was achieving in Libya, the board has asked me to develop a business plan for a regional expansion into Africa and the Middle East, however, this was not finished as I left the group.

08/2004 – 08/2007Edgo Group - General Manager, Sahara Development Group, Libya

This is a holding company that was established in 2004to explore the Libyan market given the transition the country was undergoing and to identify the right investment opportunities. I accepted to take on the challenge and dedicated my initial focus with a small team to fully understand and survey the market as a whole including a thorough knowledge of the local laws and regulations. This was very important and fundamental to accurately understand the existing supply and demand situation, to be aware of all local regulations and to develop the business plan and strategy that the group should adapt to establish presence and to build for the future. In parallel, it was critical for me to establish contacts and to pursue discussions with potential companies who would be interested to bring their expertise and to forming partnership with the Sahara Development Group in Libya. The board was very supportive of the approach I adapted and recognized that we were building the path to a strong presence in the market in many sectors with significant potential to regional expansion. The company becamewell reputedand recognized for its seriousness in driving opportunities forward very fast.

I have led the company to rapidly grow over the 3 years with revenue in 2007 of almost $20 million and a planned growth to at least double it in the following 2 years. I established 3 business ventures with specialty in:

-Education:I initiated this venture based on the critical need for a full school offering worldwide recognized education. It started in 2005 as a primary school, however, demand has exceeded expectations and full expansion was completed in 2007 versus the original 5 year plan.

-Industrial Trading:This venture is specialized into industrial equipment and tools serving a variety of sectors in the market. I have established partnership with 3 very renowned global companies.

-Real Estate Development:Established one of the leading commercial office centers in Tripoli. It was equipped to international standards and was fully leased in less than a year by major multinational companies. Also started the initial work on bigger projects to include a large mixed use development.

I successfully led the above entities to include the full cycle from developing the business idea to legal presence and of course to complete resourcing for full scale operation. This role was an exciting challenge to me where I proved persistence to succeed in a complex environment.

07/1991 – 07/2004Procter & Gamble, Europe & Middle East

I joined Procter & Gamble in 1991 at their European headquarters in the UK. I started as a research manager leading projects focused on product development. I have then progressed with them to develop and lead strategic plans starting from market analysis and concept development to full manufacturing feasibility and roll-out across markets. I have led many areas of the business to include full management of research programs, building quality assurance capabilities, qualifying and starting-up new production sites, identifying new marketing concepts and opportunities, leading global standardization and consolidation programs and managing expansion into new geographies.

In 1998, I was appointed Manufacturing Operation Manager in Saudi Arabia to lead the start-up of a new multi-million production operation. This was recognition to my continuous and strong contribution to the business, to my strong skills in developing and building organization excellence and to delivering results exceeding expectations. I led the full staffing of the organization, developed its structure, set-up its running cost with complete ownership to budget performance and developed systems, standards and capabilities that were classified as benchmark examples.

In 2001, I became a member of the Business Leadership Team and was appointed Technical Services Operation Manager. This was a newly created position to lead the consolidation of a number of functions. I was given this new challenge after my proven success in optimizing organization structure and operating cost, in building manpower capabilities and in developing strong expertise all very much needed to create a smooth consolidation and transition and to build for the future. I managed to achieve an organization running at less than 40% of the original cost with better utilized resources and delivering a much improved business results. The approach I have adopted required dealing with a number of sensitive situations, however, it was very successful and rewarding.
