IV International S.I.Taneev chamber ensembles competition

CONDITIONS

TheIVInternational S.I.Taneevchamber ensembles competition is to be held in Kalugafrom October,30 tillNovember, 6, 2011.

The competition will be held in three rounds:I preliminary selectionround (by recording), II and IIIrounds in the Concert Hall of the Kaluga Philharmonic Society, audition pursuingthe Prize named after T.A.Gaidamovitch in the Concert Hall of the Music college named after S.I.Taneev, the final concert of the winners in the Concert Hall of the Kaluga Philharmonic Society and the Rachmaninov’s Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire.

The competition includes thefollowing categories:

A - Piano duo (two pianos);

B - Piano trio;

C - Piano quartet;

D - Piano quintet.

THE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The competition isopen to the ensembles where each musician is bornnot earlier than November 1, 1976, and not later than November 1, 1995.

To following documents are to be submitted together with the application form.

- copy of the passports;

- copy of the certificate of music education;

- curriculum vitae of the ensemble;

- programmes of all rounds;

- two photographs of the ensemble;

- recording for the I round;

- invoice of the entrance fee payment.

Applications must be typed or written in capital letters in Russian, English, German, or French.

The deadline is May, 31, 2011.

The entrance fee for each ensemble –100 Euro (or equivalent in US dollars on the day of payment).

In case of withdrawal from the competition, the documents and application fee will not be returned.

THE COMPETITION PROCEDURE

The competition will be held in three rounds:I preliminaryselectionround (CD or DVD) will be held by the Jury, appointed by the Organizing Committee and will determine what ensemble will be admitted to the Second round.

Each applicant will be notified by the Organizing Committee not later than June15, 2011regarding the admission to the Competition and proposed date of arrival. In case of necessity the sheet music of S.I.Taneev pieces for the ensembles will be passed to the contestants by mail.

II and IIIrounds are open to the public.

The decision of the Jury at every stage of the competition are final and are not subject to question, review or appeal.The finalists will be decided by the Jury in the open voting. The final placing and awards will be decided by the Jury in open voting.

During the work of the competition, between the IIandIII roundsaspecialaudition will be held,pursuing the Prize named after T.A.Gaidamovitch. The programme isconsidered to be free,preferably with the compositions of the contestant’s country.Durationnot more than 30 minutes.Participationinthespecialroundis open to all contestants out of dependence of their admission to the final round. The winner of the special round will be awarded with the Prizenamed after T.A.Gaidamovitch.

PRIZES

The Organizing Committee of the III International S.I.Taneev chamber ensembles competition announces the following awards:

1-st prize –6.000 USD and the laureate title;

2-nd prize –4.000 USD and the laureate title;

3-rd prize –3.000 USD and the laureate title;

4-th prize –1.500 USD and the laureate title;

5-th prize –800 USD and the laureate title;

6-th prize –700 USD and the laureate title.

Three honorary awards of 300 USD each and the diplomant title

Special Prize named after T.A.Gaidamovitch – 1.500,0 USD

The ensembles not admitted to the Final round will be awarded with an honorary Diploma.

The Jury’s decisions are indisputable.

The Jury has the right:

a) to refrain from awarding all the prizes and diplomas;

b) to divide the Prize between the ensembles.

c) in case if some Prizes will not be awarded the Jury has the right to increase the sum of the Prizes in accordance with the free sums.

FINANCIAL TERMS

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to broadcast and televise the competition auditions and closing concerts, has exclusive rights for audio- and video recordings of the competition, to distribute and sell them all over the world without extra fees.

All travelexpenses, accommodation and meals are paid by the contestants.

The organizing Committee will provide and pay for accommodation with meals only to contestants admitted to the Third Round.

The Organizing Committee will provide assistance for the contestants and accompanying persons in booking the hotels and visiting the competition’s events.

PROGRAMME

During the competition, between IIandIII rounds aspecialaudition will be held pursuing the Prize named after T.A.Gaidamovitch. It is required to perform any piece by a Russian composer XIX – XXI century.Durationno longer 30 minutes.Participationinthespecialroundis open to all ensembles out of dependence of their admission to the final round.

W.A.Mozart. Sonata D dur, KV448, in 3 movements.

II round

а) J.Brahms. Sonata op. 34-bis, in 4 movements, or “Variations on J.Haydn’s theme”, op. 56-bis.

b) One or more pieces by a composer of the contestant’s country.

Total performing time of the II round – no longer 50 minutes.

III round

a) S.I.Taneev. Prelude and Fugue, op.29.

b) S.I.Taneev. Symphony №4 c moll, op.12 - original version for a piano duet (could be performed on two pianos).

c) Composition, written after 1980, no longer 20 minutes.

B. PianoTrio

I round

W.A.Mozart. Piano Trio to the choice - KV 442, 496, 502, 548, 564, in 3 movements.

II round

а) J.Brahms. Piano Trio to the choice - op.8, 87, 101, in 4 movements.

b) One or more pieces by a composer of the contestant’s country.
