Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law

Financial Emergency Fund Application

The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law Financial Emergency Fund was established in 2012 through generous philanthropic support of the school. The fund is used to aid students who encounter financial emergencies.

In order to qualify for IU McKinney Law Financial Emergency Funds, a student must:

  • Be enrolled at the IU McKinney School of Law in three or more credit hours at the time of application.
  • Be in good academic standing as determined by the IU McKinney School of Law.
  • Complete and submit the attached application.
  • Have exhausted other sources of emergency assistance such as financial aid and family resources.
  • Demonstrated that the financial need is a one-time, unexpected expense rather than a chronic financial need.
  • Be willing to meet with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the IU McKinney School of Law if requested.
  • Have completed a scholarship application with the IU McKinney School of Law for the academic year in which the applicant is applying for emergency funds.
  • Have not been a past recipient of IU McKinney School of Law Financial Emergency Funds.
  • Qualify for need-based financial aid.
  • Have no fines (i.e. parking, library, etc.) posted to the applicant’s Bursar account at the time of application.
  • Write a thank you letter to the donor if awarded these funds. Information on writing a thank you letter and how to submit it will be provided upon notification of receiving the funds.

If a student’s financial aid package includes federal financial aid (for example, Stafford loans), and the student applies for IU McKinney Law Emergency Funds, it is possible that the emergency funds will not be paid-out in the form of cash or credit (i.e., as money paid into the student’s Bursar account), but instead, may reduce the recipient’s student loan burden. In those cases, there may be a need for the recipient to apply for a budget adjustment.

  • Complete this application by selecting the gray shaded box to enter information. Use the ‘tab’ key to move to the next gray shaded box.
  • Submit the following materials to Assistant Dean Johnny Pryor at
  1. Completed application
  2. Supporting documentation (e.g., invoices, estimates from vendors, etc.)

Applications are accepted and evaluated on an on-going basis.
