1Significant Items

K.44 (umbrella recommendation to K.20, K.21 and K.45) revision now has:

1)Ethernet port properties and tests (includes 500 V insulation test)

2)Use of cheesecloth for hazard detection

3)More details on special impulse requirements when grounding/earthling system is inadequate.

K.20, K.21 and K.45revisions now have:

1)Power contact set by prospective current rather than resistance values. Sets test currents to be independent of AC mains supply (120 V or 230 V)

2)Ethernet classed as “Under Study”

K.85 is a new document from the home networking focus group. It covers:

1)Principles of protection

2)MSPDs – has warning about using MSPDs without a protective earth connection!!

3)Installation practices which may result in damage

4)Coordination

5)Risk assessment

6)Assessment of protection needs

Lightning surge waveshape modification by clamping type SPD

The presented contributionon cell site towers showed that for parallel paths, one with a clamping type SPD in, the postulated 10/350 current waveshape was converted to a 10/50 waveshape in the SPD path.

Study Period

Ends with next Geneva, 11-19 April 2012 Meeting
