Course Description:
The object of this course is to teach the student important facts about the body and other influences that affect a student’s health. It is also designed to provide knowledge and skills to enjoy a physically active, healthy lifestyle. The major topics will include but not limited to: human sexuality, mental and emotional health, stress, Alcohol and its consequences, Tobacco use, Medicines and Drugs, Illegal Drugs and CPR/First aid certification.

- Group projects
- Alcohol, tobacco and drugs
- Relationships
- CPR/First aid certification
- Mental and emotional health
- Human sexuality

- Comprehensive Final over all chapters covered
- CPR certification completion
- Chapter Quizzes
Homework:
- Homework assignments will be given as appropriate. Due dates will vary depending upon the assignment.
- Assignments must be turned in ON TIME for full credit. Late work will only be accepted for partial credit during the next class meeting that follows the due date.
- Exceptions to due dates are made only for special circumstances, when arrangements are made with the teacher. Work turned in after an absence will be accepted according to school policy.
Grading:
- Daily assignments:
- Bell Ringers (5 pts) Information on ruled paper: Name (first and last), Hour, date, question and answer. This is the only way you will get full credit. I grade on participation for bell ringers, not for right answers.
- Active and willing to participate in group discussions.

Classroom rules and expectations:
- Do not interrupt the teacher or other students while they are speaking
- WaterONLY allowed.
- Push chairs in everyday
- Put folder in the correct filing cabinet
- Sit in assigned seats
- Participate in all class discussions…YOUR OPINION MATTERS!
- Remember that your opinion might not be the same as your peers…respect that.
- Come to class everyday with a great attitude and smile on your face!
Start of class:
- Must be in the room when the last bell rings
- Get note card and do bell ringer on board.
- Sit quietly and wait for the rest of class to get done
Cell phone:
- Turn it off!
- This is your FIRST AND LAST WARNING…DON’T LET ME SEE YOU ON IT.
Consequences:
In order to promote a safe and positive learning environment for every student, appropriate behavior must be met by every student, each day. This will allow everyone to participate in class and share openly during discussions. Therefore, inappropriate behavior will be dealt with on an individual basis according to classroom expectations, and school policy. Consequences will include parent phone calls, detentions and other actions as necessary.
Goals:
My goal for this class is to provide a safe and fun environment for all my students where they will be given the opportunity to learn. My students will learn how to be a health advocate for all issues concerning their physical, mental and emotional health. I will treat each student as an individual and will respect them and their opinions.
