ITEC – India’s Flagship Initiative in Capacity Building
Ghana has been a recipient of India’s assistance through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, which came into effect in 1960s to help the developing and the under-developed countries to strengthen their human resource by way of technical training in various academic, professional, vocational and technological institutions of India. India’s faith in high quality human capital as a key to sustained economic growth stems from its own developmental experience. More than 1500 Ghanaians have benefited so far from their participation in ITEC training programmes in India in a variety of fields ranging from Banking & Finance, Accounts, Mass Communications and Languages, Postal Services, Standardization, Quality Control, Human Resource Management, Educational Planning & Management, Water Resources Management, Rural Development, Renewable Energy, Criminal Investigations, Business Management, Information Technology, Parliamentary Procedures and Administration, and many more. For the year 2013-14, Ghana has been allotted 150 ITEC training slots for civilian training programmes in India. In addition, training scholarships are also awarded to Ghanaian defence officials as well as short term civilian training programmes under India-Africa Forum Summit.
