It was great to meet everyone at Kindergarten Parent Night.
Please find below answers to questions that were noted on the Exit Slips from the Kindergarten Parent Information Night. We look forward to having you becoming a part of the Young School community. Please do not hesitate to contact the office with any questions that you may have.

2014-2015 Registration
Walk-in Registration will occur on 5/19 (incoming kdg, new, returning students), 5/22 incoming kdg students only), and 5/27 incoming kdg, new, returning students), from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Young gymnasium. All families will be required to register through this process. Registration information is typically sent out in early May.
Classroom Assignments
Teacher assignments will be available online through the online eschool system between the second and third week of August.
2014-15 Meet and Greet
A Meet and Greet for students, parents, and teachers will occur on Thursday, August 21 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
Parent Night Presentation
The presentation from Kindergarten Parent Night will be uploaded on the school website. The presentation will be posted under the Kindergarten Information link on the left side of the school website.
Safety Drills
Fire, tornado, and safety drills are conducted with staff and students multiple times throughout the school year.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
All parents are asked to complete an arrival/dismissal sheet to give to your child’s classroom teacher on the first day of school. It is important that you inform the classroom teacher and the office with details of your child’s arrival and dismissal routines. Please note that unless we hear directly from a parent we will follow the dismissal information that is noted on the arrival/departure form. If there is a permanent change for dismissal, we ask that parents complete a new sheet to , a new Arrival and Departure sheet may be obtained from the office. We ask that you update the “Arrival and Departure” sheet each time a change is made to your routine.
Y Safe N Sound Program
The YMCA of Naperville provides Before and After Care for students in District 204. Please contact the YMCA at the following number to receive information on the Y Safe N Sound Program.

- 8:50: First Bell
- 9:05: School Day Begins
- 3:35: School Day Ends
Wednesday School Hours
- 9:00: First Bell
- 9:15: School Day Begins
- 3:35: School Day Ends
Professional Development (PD) Wednesdays:
- Due to district wide professional development, the school day begins at 9:15 am on Wednesdays. Students enter the building at 9:00 am on Wednesdays. The school assists elementary parents who might not have flexibility in their Wednesday morning schedules by providing supervision in the gym at 8:50 am. During this 10 minute period, students will work quietly on school work or read a book. Students who come to school at 8:50 am on PD Wednesday are to enter the building through the main office doors.
Ready, Set, Kindergarten Night-Thursday, May 22, 2014
On Thursday, May 22 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Young staff will host Ready, Set,
Kindergarten Night. During this evening, incoming Kindergarten students will participate in a 10 minute pre-kindergarten interview that will focus on pre-literacy, math, fine motor, and language skills. After the interview parents and students will have the opportunity to tour the school together. Parents will receive a brief summary sheet about their student’s interview. While students are working with teachers, parents will have the opportunity to talk with our office staff or PTA members about Young School. Walk-in Registration for kindergarten students will also occur on this night from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
