Departmental goals: / To be the custodians of the production system, assuring quality at all stages of the IT development lifecycle.
Purpose and scope of role: / The test analyst will take responsibility for the testing of new and changed IT systems before their promotion to the production environment, ensuring that they are of high quality, effective and approved in good time.
Handling the throughput of the Rapid Response/Helpdesk and Projects teams
Requests will range in size from less than a day to several months of testing
When requests are allocated, expected to complete testing within the agreed timescales
Some projects require work management of business users (UAT).
To produce plans for, and carry out thorough system testing.
To provide accurate estimates of work due to undertaken which will then feed into the project plans and assist with progress monitoring.
To provide clear and accurate progress reporting on any given tasks.
To provide ideas for the continual improvement of the department, team and as an individual.

Key Areas of Focus

Description / Activities
Communication / Communicate in an efficient and appropriate manner to all internal customers, and staff at all levels up to and including executive level.
Technical Knowledge / Be responsible for your personal technical development, ensuring you develop and maintain your knowledge to perform testing in tandem with an awareness of the ISEB Software Testing syllabus. Applying techniques learnt where applicable, to ensure the requirements of the projects have been met and that high quality systems are delivered.
Change Management / Apply correct recording and monitoring processes so that your testing effort is transparent, visible and auditable.
Be able to attend meetings/visit the business, and retain information and concepts relating to change that is taking place.
Annual and monthly appraisals / Be responsible for retaining minutes and creating personal objectives, ensuring all actions are completed within the required agreements.
Personal Development Plan / Be responsible for developing and maintaining your PDP folder, ensuring it is brought to each monthly appraisal for review by your manager.
Performance Management / Be responsible for adhering to the Quality standards and KPI’ s for Model Office, both individually and on a team basis.
Skills Matrix / Be responsible for continually driving your knowledge forward – both technically & departmentally, to increase the quality of the final delivery.
Accountability / Be accountable for the quality of your work – ensuring accuracy wherever possible.
Risk Management / Be aware of IT related risk and its impact on the business, for example risk of system or software failure.

  • Experience of the development lifecycle.
  • Experience of software testing.
  • Extensive fault finding skills using a range of technical skills and knowledge.
  • Experience using automated test tools, primarily selenium & Jmeter, at both an execution and scripting level of skill.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate at all levels, and to communicate complex technical issues using simple and clear language to staff of all levels.
